Episode 8 was a nice change of pace from the calm episodes to an action-packed adventure. With Gaelion on the rampage, another disaster strikes as Eclair informs everyone of Filo’s worsening health. The group sets out toward the village near the dragon’s den, hoping to find Gaelion there.
We see a few revelations here and there, like Wyndia being able to draw power from the dragon veins or the fact that the zombie dragon was Wyndia’s father. We also see Ren, the sword hero, repenting his past actions. The episode concludes with the start of an epic battle between our heroes and the Emperor Dragon.

No, Season 3 of “The Rising of the Shield Hero” is not on a break this week. Episode 9 is not delayed and should be released as usual on the above-mentioned date.
2. Episode 9 Speculation
Near the end of episode 8, the emperor dragon completely takes over Gaelion’s core, transforming his body into his own. He launches an attack at Wyndia, but Naofumi gets in the way. The next episode will show us the crucial battle between Naofumi and this strong adversary. From the looks of it, Naofumi might have to fight the enemy alone since the dragon has already knocked out all the other party members.
The question is whether Naofumi is strong enough to handle the foe alone. The only other members still standing are Wyndia and the white tiger siblings. Will the level increase in Naofumi’s shield be of any use here? Nadia did say that once Wyndia masters using the power of the dragon veins, she will be able to use jamming magic, so if she learns that now, it’ll be a huge help in blocking the dragon’s power absorption from Naofumi’s shield.
3. Recap of Episode 8
The episode picks off from where episode 7 ended. As Naofumi and the team are trying to devise a plan to find and neutralize Gaelion, Eclair tells them that something is wrong with Filo.
After telling the others to prepare for an expedition in Gaelion’s search, Naofumi, along with Raphtalia, Eclair and the white tiger siblings, reaches where Filo is. She looks extremely ill, but her condition is much more severe as Gaelion is drawing her exp from her, which is essentially her life force.
The next morning, the group reaches the village near the dragon’s den where they learn about Gaelion’s arrival from the villagers. They leave Melty, Filo and some others back in the village and move toward the mountains. Filo’s condition worsens in the village as our heroes approach the den.
On their way, Wyndia shocks everyone by using magic to defeat a wild monster. Nadia tells everyone that she can actually draw power from the dragon veins underground and use magic with that. Later, after entering the cave, she uses these dragon veins to light up the surroundings.
There, the team confronts Gaelion, who’s still out of control. Before they could properly fight back, though, Filo suddenly came charging in and attacked the berserk dragon. Given her current health, she loses instantly and gets swallowed by Gaelion.
Naofumi and his friends launch a full-scale attack on the dragon to save her, but he suddenly grows bigger and drastically stronger. The battle seems winnable as their attacks start to damage him with the help of Naofumi’s strength-enhancing magic.
This is when the shocking revelation happens as Wyndia tells everyone that the zombie dragon that lived here was actually her father and that he might be the one who took over Gaelion’s mind. She begs her father to stop but soon realizes it is not actually her father.
The one who took over Gaelion’s mind was actually the Emperor Dragon. The dragon starts drawing energy from Naofumi’s shield, making him even stronger and almost invulnerable. Naofumi has the genius idea of purposefully disabling the shield, but the dragon takes over his shield before he makes a move, rendering him powerless.

Tate no Yusha no Nariagari or The Rising of the Shield Hero is an isekai light novel series written by Aneko Yusagi. It was initially published as a web novel on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website from 2012 to 2015.
In August 2013, Media Factory started publishing the light novel series with an expanded storyline featuring illustrations by Seira Minami.
