The Rings of Power is just around the corner, and I can’t wait to revisit Middle Earth. The trailer dropped last week and shared some incredible glimpses of what to expect from the TV series, storyline, characters, and more.
If you look closely, you’ll see that this show’s plot will be pretty different from other renditions of the books. So here’s a complete trailer breakdown of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Let’s dive right in.
The Rings of Power trailer showcases Gladariel’s mission against Morgoth, the Numenor narrative, the Dwarf Kingdom, a few new characters, and more.
There’s quite a lot to unpack in this trailer. Despite not showing the rings, there seems to be a lot happening without them being an active part of the narrative. So, let me dissect the different aspects one by one.
1. Galadriel’s Arc
In the First Age, Galadriel lost her brothers in several battles. One of them died in a fight with Morgoth. In the trailer, we see Galadriel embark upon a mission to hunt for Morgoth’s followers, Orcs, and anyone associated with him.
Her motive is to vanquish any trace of darkness within Middle Earth. In fact, this quest leads her to Numenor City.
2. Numenor City
In the books, Numenor isn’t the main focus. However, the trailer depicts this majestic city in all its glory, and according to the lore, it was the city that influenced Gondor much later. Galadriel reaches this place and we see her plead with the rulers to join her quest in fighting Morgoth’s army.
Here we see Queen Tar-Miriel, who, according to the books, is loyal to the elves. We also see a subplot here. During this time, some powerful men believed they were superior to the elves. We see Pharazon gathering a crowd for a cause, but we still don’t know who it would be against. It could be the elves or perhaps even the Queen who supports them.
3. The Dwarf Kingdom
If you remember, the Dwarf Kingdom, Moria, was known to have been eradicated by Dragon Smaug. However, according to the timeline of events, this show is situated much before any of that happened. So we do see a Dwarf King, and the Kingdom is teeming with life and prosperity.
We see a Dwarf, Prince Durin IV, and Princess Disa, and they have a conversation about the Kingdom and who will rule it. Besides this, we see King Durin IV wearing many rings. There’s a good chance that these would be the Four Rings of Power that led to Moria’s destruction.
4. The Harfoot, Nori
Harfoots are a breed of hobbits in the world of LOTR, and we see a hobbit named Nori in the trailer. He seems to form a bond with a giant who turns into a ball of fire. The giant’s name is not revealed, but the two might have an important role to play in the series.
5. Other New and Old Characters
One of the newest additions to the lore of LOTR is Halbrand. He is a human whom we’ve never seen before in any other rendition. He is supposedly one of the heroes who will have a crucial role to play in the story. We see him in different scenes, including on a wrecked ship, in the jail, and while crossing paths with Galadriel.
Besides him, there are other characters from the books, including Elrond, Elf Arondir, humans from the Southlands, orcs, wargs, white-clocked men, and more. Overall, the trailer looks promising, and I can’t wait to watch the show on September 2.
