The Rings of Power Season 2 Ending Explained: All Finale Revelation

Several plot points are satisfactorily resolved, significant questions are addressed, additional theories are raised, and extensive storylines for season 3 are set up in The Rings of Power season 2 finale. After season one concluded, many people started speculating about The Rings of Power’s future.

As Sauron maneuvered his way to the top of Middle-earth’s power structure and the free peoples rebelled against his darkness, The Rings of Power season 2 addressed these theories with a more assured narrative focused around the crafting of The Lord of the Rings’ Rings of Power.

Adar’s army faces Eregion, and Celebrimbor is making his last stand against Sauron. This story culminated in The Rings of Power season 2’s finale, with most of the cast coming together to defend Eregion. Elrond and the elves repel a wave of orcs while Sauron, as part of his Rings of Power scheme, pursues Galadriel in a battle for the Nine Rings of Men.

The Rings of Power season 2 concludes with The Stranger learning who he is, the dwarves of Khazad-dûm seeing a glimpse of the fiery doom sleeping beneath them, and the men of Númenor wrestling with their ongoing power struggle.

Who is this Stranger? The Greatest Mystery Finally Solved

The Stranger’s identity was arguably the biggest twist revealed after The Rings of Power season 2. Many have speculated that The Stranger was an early form of Gandalf the Grey since he was revealed as one of the Istari in The Lord of the Rings.

There were doubts about how Gandalf could have existed in Middle-earth’s Second Age, but this was reinforced by several sardonic allusions, allusions, and Easter eggs to the itinerant grey wizard. The Stranger is revealed to be Gandalf in The Rings of Power season 2’s finale, despite the apparent disrespect for Tolkien’s original works.

It was expected, considering the numerous, clear allusions to the famous wizard. Still, the possibility of something different existed amid other theories that suggested The Stranger and his Dark Wizard counterpart were the two seldom-mentioned Blue Wizards from Tolkien’s books.

But The Stranger’s identity as the Second Age’s Olórin—the Gandalf of the Second Age—was established by the Stoors’ references to him as Grand-Elf, the discovery of his staff, and the Dark Wizard’s encounter.

How Galadriel Escapes Her Death After Fall?

The fate of the Nine Rings of Men constituted the other main plot point of The Rings of Power season 2 finale. When the episode began, Galadriel had the Rings in her possession and was trying to get out of Eregion while trying to save as many people as she could.

Sauron eventually approaches her after catching up with her. Sauron and Galadriel battle until the former takes possession of the Nine Rings amid more offers of crowns, alliances, taunts, and torments. Galadriel is about to jump off a cliff above Eregion, and he demands that she give him her Ring, Nenya.

Galadriel is later revealed to have survived her fall, raising the question of how. The Elven Rings of Power hold the key to solving this, as hinted throughout season 2 of The Rings of Power. The elven Rings—Galadriel’s in particular—have been demonstrated to have extraordinary healing abilities, as was previously demonstrated.

Galadriel probably survived the fall because she was holding the Ring when she leaped. Then, the combined might of Gil-galad’s Rings and hers caused Galadriel’s injuries from Sauron’s weapons to mend.

Sauron uses the Nine Rings of The Rings of Power to Set up His Story for The Rings of Power Season 3

Sauron acquired the Nine Rings of Men in The Rings of Power season 2 and crafted rings for the dwarves. This sets up his story for season 3 and connects to the Nazgûl from The Lord of the Rings.

With the Nine Rings of Power at his disposal, Sauron will search for the lords of men he wishes to subjugate to his will. This plot will be developed in season three of The Rings of Power.

To transform them into the nine Nazgûl shown in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Sauron will track down people to give the Rings to. It is unclear who these subjects will be, but creating the One Ring from The Lord of the Rings and organizing the Ringwraiths are surely part of Sauron’s plan.

Why Adar Changes for the Better in the Finale of Rings of Power?

The Rings of Power season 2 concludes with Adar’s demise, preceding the pivotal encounter between Sauron and Galadriel. As was frequently theorized throughout season 2, the character is killed by his orcs, who belonged to Sauron. Nevertheless, Adar’s persona had a fascinating change not long before.

In The Rings of Power, season 2, episode 7, Adar appears as a fair elf after obtaining Galadriel’s Ring. Seeing how many of his Uruk children had been sacrificed made him realize the folly of his ways.

This realization was aided by the power of the Ring, which transformed his heart’s desire to bring the elves and the Uruk to a truce. While he still hopes to defeat Sauron with Galadriel, Adar promises to return his army to Mordor and usher in a new era of peace with the other races of Middle-earth. Sadly, this cease-fire is broken when Adar is slain by his orcs.

Rivendell is Introduced at the End of The Rings of Power

At the end of Rings of Power season 2, the elven city was destroyed, and the Siege of Eregion ended. But as a plethora of dwarves emerged to engage the orcs in combat, many of its occupants were able to flee.

The elves withdrew north of Eregion to a secret Misty Mountains valley led by Elrond, Gil-galad, Arondir, and Galadriel. Eventually, this valley will become Rivendell, Elrond’s stronghold extensively described in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Is Saruman the Dark Wizard of the Rings of Power?

More information regarding the Dark Wizard was disclosed after The Rings of Power season 2 back in Rhûn, Middle-earth. The wizard had to stop the Dark Wizard and his minions from harming the Stoors, Nori, and Poppy before discovering Gandalf’s true identity.

The brave Istari discovers that the Dark Wizard intends to assist Gandalf in defeating Sauron so his evil counterpart can eventually fill the void. This sparks a quick altercation in which the Dark Wizard attempts to murder the Stoors before taking off.

The Dark Wizard’s identity and relationship with Gandalf in The Rings of Power is uncertain. An early Saruman in season 2 suggests that the Dark Wizard may be one of the previously mentioned Blue Wizards.

Will The Balrog come back in Season 3 of The Rings of Power?

A powerful scene in which Durin IV faced his father opened the second season of Rings of Power. Granting into the Ring’s influence, Durin III had broken through the mountain and created a path that led to a Mithril-filled chasm.

The Balrog, a demon of shadow and flame who has long been hinted to as the dwarves’ end, was also contained within this chasm, though. Thus, the Balrog’s tenure was brief in The Rings of Power season 3, it hinted at a return.

In Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series, the Balrog was meant to destroy Khazad-dûm in the Third Age. The great dwarven kingdom, Moria, was hinted to be destroyed by the Balrog in the Second Age in The Rings of Power. The season 2 finale strongly suggested the Balrog’s return for future seasons, especially season 3.

The True Significance Of The Season 2 Finale In The Rings of Power

Celebrimbor’s passing is arguably the most heartbreaking part of The Rings of Power season 2’s conclusion. The Dark Lord slays Celebrimbor after being tortured by Sauron to learn the location of the Nine Rings. This ending is appropriately tearjerking considering Celebrimbor’s tragic past, but the real significance of The Rings of Power season 2’s conclusion honors the greatest of all elven smiths.

The true meaning of The Rings of Power is that light triumphs over darkness, not strength, as Celebrimbor stated during the Siege of Eregion. After the season, Celebrimbor’s observations are still relevant because many of the show’s plots are infused with Sauron’s darkness.

Nevertheless, in season 3, the free peoples of Middle-earth put up more resistance because, despite the gloom of season 2’s conclusion, the show’s central characters never stop reminding the viewer—as well as themselves—that Celebrimbor’s wisdom was true and that only light can drive out darkness.
