Opera has been and will always be a fan-favorite character in the Mairmashita universe.
If the love for Opera wasn’t enough already, Kalego and Opera’s interactions have made it even better. Opera has just made everything so much better.
It just made me appreciate Opera’s character more. Not only Opera is one heck of a butler but also an overpowered character. An insanely powerful and capable butler who provides you delicious food? We all want that!
Opera is super mysterious. Fans have little to no clue about what is Opera’s rank? Why is Opera working as a butler? How old is Opera? But then a major question comes to everyone’s mind what opera’s gender is?
The author has refused to comment on any such questions and has left it to the fans to speculate. Let us discover one such fan theory on whether opera is a girl or a boy.
I believe Opera is a girl, and the author has purposely created an air of mystery around her. Well, the fans sure are hooked. To understand the reason why I think Opera is a girl, read further.
1. Why is Opera, a Girl?
I. Opera’s Voice and Appearance
It’s difficult to make out whether Opera is a girl or not. Mitsuki Saiga is Opera’s voice actor. Unlike Saiga’s other male voice works, Opera’s voice does not particularly have any depth to it. Her voice has a soft tone.
Opera’s features are androgynous, and the production made sure the voice remains the same as well.
Even though she doesn’t have any peculiar feminine characteristics, they are drawn on a delicate side. It is not gentle like Ami Kirio’s appearance, but it is not rough either.
II. Chapter 70, a Give-Away of Opera’s Gender
Iruma’s first semester is finally over after many hurdles and challenges. Clarin and Asmodeus suggest going on a vacation trip to Walter Park.
Since the trip wouldn’t be adventurous without their other friends, the entire abnormal class and Amelie tags along.
Our egg Ji-chan, Sullivan, is extremely worried for Iruma, Opera accompanies them as well. Sullivan orders Balam and Kalego to overlook the other. They divide into three groups, with Opera, Kalego, and Balam as supervisors.
All the girls coincidently become a part of Opera’s group with the help of the lottery. Clara mentions to Amelie that it is ‘Another girls only party.’
Now, why would she say that if Opera was a male? Later they enjoy themselves by dressing each other up. Opera plays along with them posing for pictures.
There wouldn’t have been so much secrecy if Opera was a male as the clothes would be an obvious clue, but that’s not the case either. Until Osamu gives an official statement Opera’s gender remains a mystery.
Throughout the manga and anime sub, Opera is referred to as ‘they.’ possibly due to ambiguity or language barriers. However, it doesn’t matter if Opera is a male or a female. Opera will still be our beloved Neko-chan.
