As the Straw Hats make their way towards Elbaf, a lot has happened in Pirate Seas. With One Piece reaching its final saga, we hoped to get some clarity about Vegapunk Satellites after the shockers from chapter 1124; there are new ones in store, as Oda doesn’t fail to impress.
From the death of Stussy to the Iron Giant being a research project for the World Government and Saint Saturn being killed by Imu. There are a lot of shockers in Chapter 1125, not the least of which is the fact that the Punk Records have been stolen,
1. What happened to the Vegapunk Satellites?
After escaping the Egghead island, Lilith woke up and suddenly showed a sudden understanding of the situation. She took a minute to burst out crying, and then she quickly switched gears and asked for food.
She then sees that the mood around Luffy is gloomy and tries to cheer Luffy up. She tells him that although all the Vegapunks had died (according to the humans’ concept of death) they were, in fact, alive. This was why she was quickly able to move on after crying.
So, the Straw hats technically did not fail in their mission as the Vegapunks are still alive. She told Luffy not to be sad, as Luffy had already fulfilled his promise.
The Vegapunks are still alive because their consciousness can be stored in Punk Records. As long as the bodies are remade, the consciousness can be transferred back into them. Hence, none of the Vegapunks have truly died.
2. How did the Punk Records get stolen?
Edison took the Punk Records as he made a move on them. York tries her best to defend them and even blow up the cloud loft machine, but this only lets the Punk Records leave the Labophase as they go up into the sky.
In the previous chapter, Lilith learns that the Vegapunks are not ‘dead’ dead. As long as the Punk records contain their essence, they can be brought back (in theory), although it would take time.
We see Saturn talking with the nine Vice-Admirals, and they mention that they have York, the Punk Records, and the power station; they have access to the eternal mother flame.
We see that there has been a mishap in the Lab as the cloud maker machine starts pumping out a massive number of clouds, decreasing visibility to almost nil. York sees this and instantly suspects Edison, cursing him to have died.
She tries to use her weapon to blow away the cloud machine to thwart Edison’s plan, but she plays right into her hands as he escapes after stealing the Punk Records.
As the Vegapunk Satellites cannot be revived without the Punk Records, now that Edison has obtained them, we must wait to see how the Straw Hat Pirates will revive the Vegapunks as they thwarted traitor York’s plans and obtained the Punk Records.
With merely a malfunction in the Cloud factory, Edison managed to steal away the extremely precious Punk Records. It is a testament to the fact that ‘thinking’ stands above ‘greed’ for Vegapunks.
