The Promised Neverland is one of the top psychological thriller manga. For as long as it was serialized, it always managed to give us goosebumps. The celebrated manga has finally reached its conclusion, and although there are a few complaints, we are still moved by the ending.
Chapter 181 “Beyond Destiny” marked the finale of The Promised Neverland, and the Grace Field children have once again managed to win us over. In chapter 180, Emma’s memory loss had put everyone in a dilemma, and the problem has been beautifully addressed in the last chapter.
The chapter itself starts with two coloring pages depicting Emma and the other children at a beach in the human world. However, Emma herself is standing at a distance from the others, which might be symbolic of the mental distance, which has been caused by memory loss.
Two years have passed since everyone had escaped from the demon world, and yet Emma is nowhere to be found. As a last resort, Gilda and Norman decide to search the regions destroyed by war. Fortunately, they end up in the exact same place as Emma.
The plot hereafter may seem very clichéd as Ray is pulled towards Emma. To Ray, it seemed as if Connie was directing him towards something. Emma suddenly found herself in the midst of her “family” when she went back to pick up her fallen necklace.
The Grace Field children are obviously overjoyed to find Emma after 2 long years, but Emma seems to be in discomfort because she can’t recognize anyone. As Ray states, “Her family really was taken away from her.”
The demon king had long realized that the only precious thing that Emma possesses is her family, but as saving all the humans was the clause, he couldn’t inflict any harm on them. Thus, the only price he could receive was her “sense of a family.”
Norman realizes that Emma is a new person now, and instead of demanding her to come back to them, he narrates all the things that the past Emma would have wanted to see being achieved. He reports all the progress that has been made ever since they reached the human world, all thanks to Emma.
Even though Emma can’t remember who these unknown people are, she feels an ache in her heart, which indicates that they are people who she wants to be with. All together, they decide that even though the memories that are lost can’t be revived, new ones can be made.
Emma feels a sense of belonging to these people who are ready to embrace her. They decide to change the path of destiny and live together against all the odds.
