Disney Channel’s The Owl House is so famous, fans rallied #savetheowlhouse when they were struck with the news of season 3 being the last back in July this year.
With the constant rallying that creator Dana Terrace later revealed won’t help, multiple fan theories sprung up, wondering why. Terrace addressed all of them and told the real reason on her Reddit.
Though a cartoon, The Owl House has been extremely popular with adults and kids alike. The number one fan theory has been because of its positive LGBTQ+ representation.
She started by saying that the real reason The Owl House’s season 3 is cut short (with merely three episodes) “is not as exciting.”
She first addressed the top theory making the rounds – the LGBT+ representation. She doesn’t think the cancelation has anything to do with the show being progressive.
While we have had issues airing in a few countries (and are just straight up banned in a few more), I’m not gonna assume bad faith against the people I work with in LA.

She then revealed budgets were cut across the board, but The Owl House ended up taking the bullet, adding that she wasn’t even given a chance to discuss.
Terrace also addressed the ratings theory, informing fans that the show did pretty well on cable in the streaming era. She elaborated that the company decided before it even aired on Disney+.
Lastly, she revealed the real reason – “a few business people who oversee what fits into the Disney brand” decided The Owl House doesn’t fit. Her disappointment with this decision was apparent with the many phrases she used. She explained,
The story is serialized (BARELY compared to any average anime lmao), our audience skews older, and that just didn’t fit this one guy’s tastes. That’s it! Ain’t that wild? Really grinds my guts, boils my brain, kicks my shins, all the things. It sucks but it is what it is.

At the end of it all, she assured fans that a lot of excellent episodes await them. She and the entire crew can see the appreciation and love the show’s receiving, which will hopefully encourage future releases to take bigger risks.
The Owl House season 2 is currently available to stream on Disney+ whereas reports suggest season 3 will be released in 2022.
About The Owl House
The Owl House is an American animated fantasy television series created by Dana Terrace that premiered on Disney Channel on January 10, 2020. The series stars the voices of Sarah-Nicole Robles, Wendie Malick, and Alex Hirsch.
Luz Noceda is a teenage human girl who accidentally stumbles upon a portal to another world instead of going to a juvenile detention summer camp. She arrives on an archipelago known as the Boiling Isles, formed from the remains of a dead Titan, and befriends the rebellious witch Eda Clawthorne (alias “The Owl Lady”) and her adorable demon roommate King.
Despite not having magical abilities, Luz pursues her dream of becoming a witch by serving as Eda’s apprentice at the Owl House and ultimately finds a new family in an unlikely setting.
The second season, directly following the events of the first season finale, will follow the main protagonists working together to return Luz to the Human Realm, help Eda confront her inner demons, and search for the truth about King’s past.
