Self-Aware Trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 Shown at E3

The latest massive leak from E3 2021 seems to be holding true as Obsidian Entertainment has premiered the first trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase event. As the first game had a very conclusive ending, fans were eager to see the sequel’s direction.

But they’ll have to wait a while as the trailer made it very clear that the game is so early in development that there was nothing to show at the conference.

The Outer Worlds 2 E3 trailer could very well be the funniest and least informative trailer shown at the conference this year. Obsidian decided to take jabs at the generic formula of many video game trailers by subverting expectations of a typical presentation.

In the announcement trailer, the narrator does a play-by-play of what’s happening on-screen, showing the creatures which won’t actually be a part of the final game, pointing out the appeal of slow-motion, and being hilariously self-aware.

But, audiences do get a first look at what could possible be the planet’s landscape and the protagonist, if only their silhouette. The narrator also states that Obsidian hasn’t finished enough of the game to show this year, and all that’s ready is the title shown at the end of the trailer.

The first instalment of ‘The Outer Worlds‘ is considered one amongst the best games set in space and ranks alongside some massive franchises such as Halo and Mass Effect. But, unlike the other titles on the list, The Outer Worlds never took itself too seriously and made a point to make even the direst of circumstances come off as humorous.

Featuring delightful characters and companions, fascinating worlds open for exploration, and a focus on player choice and customization, The Other Worlds was very well received by the gaming community.

The series draws a lot of inspiration from what is argued as the best Fallout game, New Vegas, which Obsidian also developed. While the original The Outer Worlds didn’t exactly match what made New Vegas unique, a sequel gives Obsidian a second chance.
