Chad L. Coleman, one of the stars of The Orville, has shared some encouraging news about the show’s fourth season.
While the previous season, The Orville: New Horizons, left room for more tales, the future of the series remained uncertain as of January. Despite expressing appreciation for Seth Macfarlane’s contributions to the science fiction comedy and acknowledging its devoted following, Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment president Craig Erwich refrained from making any definitive statements about the possibility of renewing the series for additional episodes.
According to a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Chad L. Coleman, known for his role as Klyden in The Orville, shared his perspective on the likelihood of a fourth season.
Though Coleman’s tone was fairly optimistic, he remained cautious and mentioned that “things are still undecided.” Here’s what Coleman had to say –
We’re all in the loop and out of the loop. We think it’s gonna happen, but it’s still up in the air. There’s so much going on with all of these studios that it’s just like, ‘Well, we gotta settle this thing first, then we can really decide on that thing.’ A bunch of that is going on. We hope so. Seth has an amazing relationship with Dana [Walden] and with Disney, who’s running it now. And they said they’ve had promising meetings, so we’ll see.

The season finale of The Orville: New Horizons strikes a balance between providing closure and setting the stage for potential future storylines. The episode culminates in a wedding ceremony that brings together the crew and Kaylon fleet, leading to poignant moments for characters like Alara.
While it serves as a satisfying conclusion to the season, it doesn’t definitively close the door on the series, as there are still some loose ends from earlier episodes left unresolved. Overall, the central characters are left in a positive state, but there is a sense that there is more to be explored in the show’s universe.
There has been no official word on whether The Orville will be renewed for a fourth season, and the cast has yet to confirm anything. In a previous interview with ScreenRant in August, series creator Seth Macfarlane hinted that the show’s future might depend on its viewership on Disney+.
He also expressed gratitude for the support he had received from both Hulu and Disney. Meanwhile, NASA has recently paid homage to the show by referencing its characters in its “Research Opportunities In Earth And Space Sciences (ROSES-23)” project, raising hopes that its popularity could help secure more episodes.
However, Disney+ has already cancelled several high-profile shows in 2023, including Big Shot and The Mighty Ducks spinoff, as it seeks to reduce its original programming.
So, let us all remain hopeful that The Orville will return with another season soon!
