The Orville Season 3 Episode 3 Speculation
The Krill agree to give The Orville access to the Naklav sector in exchange for mining rights for harcarium in the Obrall system. They warn them that ‘demons’ reside in this Shadow Realm and that they will not offer assistance in case they need to be saved. After the exploration, Paul falls to the ground and rapidly develops orbs on his face.
He transforms into an alien species and starts infecting others with the virus. While Claire is unable to find a cure or a way to reverse the transformation, she manages to convince Paul and the other aliens to leave the ship.

Captain Ed Mercer announces their newest mission to the crew—to pick up Admiral Paul Christie from Outpost 35 for the upcoming negotiations with the Krill. The goal of the negotiations is to convince the Krill to give them access to the Naklav Sector. No one had ever been able to traverse this sector before, so if the negotiations went smoothly, it would make The Orville the first to do so.
Paul visits Doctor Claire in the sick bay and the scene alludes to the two of them having a history. He asks if she’d like to join him for dinner but she rejects his advances. Claire insists that he focus on the Krill negotiations instead. The Orville crew mingle with the Krill for pre-negotiation food and drinks at the Mess Hall.
Mercer states that he hopes their temporary alliance will evolve into a permanent one. However, Ambassador K.T.Z. bluntly states that both sides will resume their hostile stances once the Kaylon conflict ends and the Krill are not interested in a long-term alliance. Meanwhile, Claire opens up to Grayson about the troubles in her past marriage to Paul.
