The Mosquito Coast is the story of an eccentric scientist who thinks the entire world is plotting to kill him. So, he decides to move out with his family and live as a nomad.
This week’s episode was a concoction of haphazard editing, a sluggish pace, and a lack of direction to the plot.
We go back and forth between Dina and Adolfo’s dramatic nostalgia, with the scene cutting to Allie’s wildlife adventures in the jungle. Meanwhile, Margot realizes that Richard, the known terrorist, is involved in a shady business!
It lacks pace and seems to beat around the bush.

1. Season 2, Episode 9 Synopsis/Speculation
This week’s episode tries to untie some knots, but they are too slow for me to be invested for the entire length.
Firstly, Margot tries to ally with JJ so that he gives her immunity in lieu of information about Allie. The phone call ends very awkwardly, making me feel they don’t trust each other. Is there a betrayal trope brewing up?
Talking about betrayals, Margot has Richard exactly where she wants him to be. Margot seems hell-bent on striking a deal with the US government, and she is using Richard to get there.
In this episode, Margot sneaks into Richard’s cabin and discovers a bunch of fake passports, including her own, under the name Judi.
Will his nefarious whereabouts be finally outed in the next episode? He may have let Margot control him all this while, but he has some different ulterior motive altogether.
Meanwhile, Allie and Charlie did some spying this week. They snoop into the compound of some traffickers and snap several photos, including those of drugs hidden under the floorboard.
They will be helpful when the police arrive. We know that Guillermo is hell-bent on stealing the algorithm from Allie. We will find out about the aftermath of this in the next episode.
The next episode will answer a few questions and hopefully take the plot forward. We desperately need an infusion of adrenaline after a barrage of slow-paced episodes!

This week’s episode starts with Dina leaving with Adolfo for the coast. Adolfo shows her the town’s attractions, including a church and a local hospital where they used to play football.
Meanwhile, Margot tries to talk JJ into getting complete immunity from him in lieu of getting Allie. JJ gives her confidence, but she is not sure. The call ends in a surge of awkwardness.
Margot sneaks into Richard’s camp while he is out with Isela and finds a lot of fake passports, including her own. She waits for Richard to come back so that she can confront him.
In this week’s episode, Allie and Charlie have some bonding time when he discovers Charlie during one of his patent jungle crusades. They break into the compound of a trafficker and snap photos of the whole place, including the drugs.
The episode ends with Dina stealing Adolfo’s car and taking off.
6. About The Mosquito Coast
The Mosquito Coast is an American drama television series developed by Neil Cross and Tom Bissell based on the novel of the same name by Paul Theroux published in 1981.
It is also loosely adapted from the 1986 film which starred Harrison Ford. The series stars Justin Theroux, nephew of Paul, and Melissa George in lead roles, with Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman rounding out the main cast. Justin Theroux also serves as executive producer, along with Rupert Wyatt, who directed the first two episodes.
The first season consists of seven episodes, premiered on Apple TV+ on April 30, 2021, and concluded on June 4, 2021. In June 2021, the series was renewed for a second season consisting of ten episodes. The second season premiered on November 4, 2022.
