The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings’ 20th-anniversary calls for something big and fantastic like a full-featured anime flick!
Have you ever wondered why Megumin wears a pointy cap and holds a staff, or why does every JRPG have a team of warriors, thieves, wizards, and dwarfs?
My fellow otakus, this was all due to J.R.R. Tolkien’s masterpiece “The Lord of the Rings.”
Now with LoTR’s anniversary coming up, Warner Bros has something quite enticing planned for us.
In its press release, Warner Bros announced that a new anime movie titled “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” was in production. The anime is directed by Kenji Kamiyama and animated by SOLA entertainment.
Kenji Kamiyama is known for his Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and Solid State Society series. He has also worked on classic anime features such as Akira and Kiki’s Delivery Service.
As for the animation house SOLA entertainment, they have worked on The God of High School and Tower of God. They also have prior experience of working with western franchises such as Rick and Morty and Halo.
The movie will follow Helm Hammerhand, the legendary king of Rohan, and his fight against invaders from Dunland.
The battle occurs at the Helm Deep, where the Rohirrim under King Théoden fought Saruman’s army of Men and Uruk-hai in the Two Towers film.
The war in the anime film takes place 250 years before Frodo’s journey during the third age.
The Lord of the Rings is a multi-billion dollar franchise, as Amazon just paid 250 million dollars just for the screening rights and a new exclusive series for their Prime service.
With the first-ever anime adaptation, it is proof that the land of Middle Earth has more in store for us. Being a fan of original books by Tolkien and an advent anime fan, I can’t wait for The War of Rohirrim.
