The announcement of the upcoming remake of The Last of Us was met with mixed reactions from fans. While many were desperate to slaughter zombies (and humans) as Joel, others branded the game as a mere cash grab.
Called The Last of Us 1, this enhanced zombie action-adventure title is not expected to offer any new content for the most part, with its story set to remain unchanged as well. Owing to this lack of innovation and a rather hefty price tag, a considerable portion of the fanbase wasn’t enticed by the game and criticized Naughty Dog.
Responding to the widespread criticism of fans on Twitter, The Last of Us 1 developer Robert Morrison claimed the upcoming title is not a “cash grab.” He added that the remake is “the most meticulously built and crafted project” that’s built with care and attention to detail.
Given that Morrison is a man who has worked on titles like God of War, Injustice 2, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, that is quite a compliment! But again, is it enough to justify The Last of Us Remake’s $70 price tag?
As soon as the word of its release got out, the TLOU community started discussing whether the majority of fandom was happy with the beefy pre-order price of the remake, given that it’s a game most have played before. As you can imagine, the popular sentiment was full of frustration and criticism, with many wondering if the game would justify its cost.
Addressing the disgruntlement regarding The Last of Us remake price, Morrison said:
The price of the game is out of my control, and worth is subjective to each individual. You can decide for yourself if you want it or not. All I’m saying is I am in awe of the work that an amazing group of people did on the project. A tremendous amount of passion was put into it.

If you are the one who’s on the fence, we’d suggest you wait for the game to release on September 2, evaluate its walkthrough, and then determine its worthiness. Just remember, no one’s forcing you to buy the title if you don’t think it’d fit in well with you.
