The star-shaped eyes are a distinctive trait of the Hoshino’s appearance. We were introduced to them as a peculiar trait of Ai in Oshi no Ko. They were seemingly unique to the Hoshino bloodline.
Still, we will see other characters with this particular iris in the manga. In order of their appearance: Aqua and Ruby Hoshino, Akane Kurokawa, Hikaru Kamiki, and Yura Katayose.
1. What is the meaning of Star Eyes in Oshi no Ko?
The starry eyes, especially in the case of Ai Hoshino, have been seen as the representation of the epitome of acting. The manga chapters later confirmed that the eyes indicate something deeper and more special.
The starry eyes are the definition of deceit. Ai Hoshino has two eyes with the stars that represent two different things. The first is lies. We see this in Akane Kurokawa as when she embodies Ai Hoshino, she can live a lie so well she obtains the starry eyes.
This is the reason they are seen as the mark of a truly good actor. Akane’s agent says this, too, while mentioning Hikaru Kamikawa.
In Chapter 160, the truth is confirmed by Hikaru himself as he and Aqua converse, and Hikaru denies any hand in the atrocities that Ryosuke and Nino committed.
Nino has revealed that just by talking about Ai, Hikaru had mesmerised them so much that they were almost addicted or brainwashed.
Aqua accuses Hikaru of his face, and Hikaru responds that talking and sharing is not a crime. But when he notices the starry eye of Awua, he asks him if he also has indulged in deceit and has been living a life of lies.
Aqua agrees with the statement and responds that Ruby is not that way as she genuinely works with all her heart to make the people happy with what she does. Her eyes represent another facet of Ai’s abilities: making people forget themselves and fall in love.
2. What happens in Chapter 160?
Oshi no Ko chapter 160 sees Hikaru Kamiki denying the accusations of lies from Aqua. The conversation progresses as we see how Hikaru manipulates Nino And Ryosuke by talking to them.
The unique ability of the deceiving starry eyes is revealed. Through the discourse, Hikaru understands that Aqua himself has convinced, fooled, lied, and manipulated many people with that ability.
Aqua unhesitatingly says that he has indeed done so, taking advantage of the special power of the yes he has. But he also says that the eyes themselves are not deceiving and can be used to genuinely reach the hearts of others.
We can observe this from the love and effort that Ruby puts into her songs. To move the hearts of her fans and the people, to make them forget all their troubles, even for just a few minutes. Ruby shines like that.
About Oshi no Ko
Oshi no Ko is a supernatural crime-solving manga series written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump since April 2020 and received an anime adaptation in 2023.
