The classic horror of Junji Ito will make its highly anticipated debut in September 2024. This good news came from both the official X accounts of Adult Swim and Uzumaki Anime on 26 July 2024. The eerie trailer of the upcoming project has been released along with the streaming information. The series will be available to stream on Adult Swim and HBO Max the next day.
The Uzumaki series is based on the Japanese horror manga written by Junji Ito. The manga had been serialized in Shogakukan’s weekly magazine, BigComic Spirits, from 1998 to 1999. The anime adaptation was first announced at 2019’s Crunchyroll Expo before being delayed thrice.
The Never Been Seen Before Trailer
The official trailer of the Uzumaki, which was released on Friday, has been making rounds for its unique animation. The Studio Drive’s monochromatic choice has cast life to the manga, making it a thousand times more spine-chilling and terrifying.
The PV had teased the supernatural ‘spiral’ curse gripping the fictional town of Kurouzu-Cho, inducing a series of never-ending frenzy and terror among its people. The four-episode series is set to be co-produced by Production I.G USA and Adult Swim.

Plot of the Anime
Junji Ito’s horror masterpiece follows the story of a high school couple, Kirie Goshima and Shuichi Saito, set in the fictional town of Kurouzu-Cho. The small town is soon embraced by the paranormal swirl curse, setting off a domino effect of strange incidents of paranoia and body transformations.
Kirie and Shuichi seem aware of the curse but are too helpless to find the cure. They learn the true madness of the curse when their loved ones are succumbed to it, costing them their sanity and lives. Will Kirie and Shuichi ever find a way to survive the curse when the chances are less than zero?
About Uzumaki
Uzumaki is a horror manga series by Junji Itou. It was serialized in the Big Comic Spirits manga 1998-1999. An anime production is scheduled for fall 2022.
The story starts in a small town, Kurouzu-cho. This eerie town gives birth to a spiral curse that makes people paranoid about spirals and gradually leads them to their deaths.
Kirie and Shuichi plan their escape from the town and its curse, but it is tougher than they expected.
