The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Episode 7: Release Date, Recap, & Speculation

Episode 6 flipped the narrative for Serena, whose stay with the Wheelers is akin to that of a handmaid, not a friend.

But that’s not all this week’s episode had in store for us!

Lydia’s reform, Putnam’s death, and that shocking twist at the end with Serena saving June had more than a few heads reeling after that packed hour.

Episode 6 unraveled so much drama in one shot, that it is reasonable to say, episode 7 will be dealing with the effects of all these decisions and how they’ll play out to further the story.

1. Episode 7 Synopsis/Speculation

After Serena witnesses firsthand the miseries of a handmaid at the Wheelers, her mercy towards June is understandable. But one empathetic moment can’t wipe out years of animosity; knowing Serena, she clearly has an ulterior motive.

Does she only want to escape the Putnams, or has she finally learned to sympathize with June? Will June give her a second chance in a moment of weakness?

Serena’s motives be damned, viewers can be rest assured that June will turn Serena over to Gilead for all her wrongdoings towards her over the years. But can escaping death and her trauma induce mercy in June herself? Not likely.

Putnam’s death at Nick’s hands and Rose’s knowledge of the kill can undoubtedly spell trouble for Nick and, indirectly, for June as well. Rose, who was revealed to be pregnant, might have a change of heart for her husband after he publicly killed Warren Putnam.

Lydia’s redemption arc in the story has taken quite an exciting turn in season 5 so far, and moving ahead, we can expect her to be more vocal about Gilead’s evil ways. Esther’s pregnancy highlights everything wrong with the system and forces change in Gilead, and Lydia will play a vital role.

The upcoming episode has a lot of juicy stuff in store for June, Serena, Luke, Nick, and Lydia. Next week will further the story along with more unexpected reveals and twists.
