Dr. Andrews attends to a patient who lives in a group foster home and comes into the emergency ward with multiple injuries. Kevin tries to hide the real cause of his injuries, saying it was an accident and he fell but Dr. Andrews notices that these are recurring injuries. After examination, he tells Kevin that he needs reconstructive surgery. He tries to get Kevin to open up about who is doing this to him but he seems too hesitant to speak.
After the surgery, Dr. Andrews realizes that Kevin’s sutures are torn. He is being abused at the group home because he is dyslexic. Dr. Andrews tells him he has an infection to keep in observation longer so that he can arrange for him to be moved to a different foster home. Meanwhile, Shaun and Audrey attend to a patient who has an iron lung.
Lea’s expertise with auto parts comes in handy when the device that was keeping Joan alive seems to malfunction and she has to be put on a ventilator. Lea manages to fix the chamber but the part needs to be replaced and it turns out that it has gone out of manufacturing. Joan’s niece, Sophie takes an interest in Shaun and asks Shauna and Lea if they’d like to be on a reality show and even offers to pay for their wedding.
