A new type of advanced technology is revealed in episode 3 of The Gene of AI titled “Where the Heart Lies.”
Shizuka, a girl with a robot boyfriend of five years, finds a human companion for the first time in ages. However, something that should be celebrated instead becomes a massive conflict in her head as she grows attached to her robot, Joe.
Meanwhile, Kenji had a robot bear as a gift when he was a child and did not seem to outgrow it. Much to his mother’s dismay, he thought of Poppo as a part of his family, even more important than his parents.
Here are the latest updates.
1. Episode 4 Speculation
This episode was more informational and has not progressed the plot much so we can expect the continuation of Michi’s story in the next episode. Besides that, a new type of technology in the form of robots has also been revealed.
We can assume that robots are the more primitive versions of humanoids, considering that they are pre-programmed and not granted the same autonomy as a humanoid. Whenever the war between humans and humanoids arrives, robots will be on the side of humans by this logic.

3. Recap of Episode 3
Shizuka has a nightmare where he buries her robot, Joe, in the ground but wakes up to him beside her in bed. She has always had issues with human men, but Joe was kinder and more loyal than anyone she had ever been with.
After coming back home from work, she breaks down in tears in apology that she has fallen in love. However, Joe is supportive since he is just an AI built to make single women happier. At the clinic, Sudo has found himself a toy to repair.
A kid and his mom had brought his toy bear, Poppo, to the doctor after a problem with his memory. However, Kenji became highly attached to the bear, now part of his family. His mom wants him to get over it and grow up, but Kenji refuses to let Poppo go.
Sudo also finds memory data from over twenty years about the bear’s previous owner, Yuki. He offers to erase those memories, but Kenji is adamant about protecting Poppo’s feelings and lets them stay. While he spends sometime in the park with Poppo, he runs into Joe and Shizuka’s final moments.
Kenji approaches Shizuka. He explains that even though they may love humans, they are not humanoids but just programmed to behave that way.
While he is distracted on the side of the road, Poppo accidentally gets bumped by the oncoming traffic and stops working. They take him back to Sudo, who repairs him, but he continues asking for Yuki. Kenji takes him home while listening to his stories about her.
Shizuka also reaches Sudo’s clinic, asking for advice about her situation, but he brushes her off. Eventually, he advises her to break up with her boyfriend and continue the service with Joe, but the robot has already found another client.
