The nominations for The Game Awards 2024 have been officially announced by Geoff Keighley on a livestream. This year’s ceremony, scheduled to take place on December 12.
The contenders for the Game of the Year award 2024 are: Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.
The Game Awards 2024 – All Category Nominees
The Game Awards 2024 nominations have been announced, with the ceremony set to take place on December 12. This year’s Game of the Year contenders include Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.
The nominations, announced during a livestream, showcase a diverse mix of AAA titles and indie gems. Notably, indie game Balatro secured a spot in the prestigious Game of the Year category, highlighting a standout year for smaller studios.
However, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s nomination has sparked debate, as some argue that expansions should be limited to other categories than competing with standalone releases.
Aside from that, Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth lead the pack with seven nominations each, closely followed by Metaphor: ReFantazio with six. PlayStation tops the list as the most recognized publisher, with an impressive 16 nominations overall.
Notably, The Game Awards nominations cutoff date was in early November, which means several high-profile games released later in the year were not eligible for consideration.
Titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, STALKER 2, and Marvel Rivals will have to wait until next year’s awards to vie for recognition.
Meanwhile, games like Asgard’s Wrath 2, which was released in 2023, are eligible for this year’s awards, with Asgard’s Wrath 2 earning a nomination in the VR/AR category.
