Flash season 9 is deep into its filming process. Meanwhile, some set photos of Batwoman vs. Red Death have emerged. Javicia Leslie plays both. These photos are released by a Vancouver-based local photographer Canadagraphs (via @ArrowverseScene).
The photos show Batwoman having a one-on-one confrontation with Red Death. Leslie is in her regular costume as Batwoman, while her stunt double is inside the Red Death’s costume.
These photos also give us an idea about the looks and color of Red Death’s costume because they were shot with light sources around them.
Photos also revealed Javicia Leslie sporting the Red Death costume a few weeks ago. Even though the CW refers to Leslie as the “mystery character,” it is clear that she is pulling a double role in The Flash season 9 as both Batwoman and Red Death.
Do these photos reveal anything about season 9’s story?
As of now, Warner Bros. and CW haven’t revealed anything about the plot of season 9, but it is not too difficult to have an educated guess.
The biggest mystery is how the makers will tackle the new Multiverse rules that were set up after the Crisis. The leaked photos heavily suggest that Batwoman will meet her doppelganger on Earth-Prime.
During Batwoman s1, it was clearly established that there couldn’t be more than one doppelganger in the same universe. If an exception were to happen, one version would perish due to neurological degeneration. It was the case with one of the iterations of Beth Kane, a.k.a. Alice.
The only way that there could be two Ryans in The Flash season 9 is if Leslie’s Red Death belongs to an alternate Earth-Prime timeline.
We can’t guess the nature of exchange between Batwoman and Red Death from the photos. But we can surely assume that it is not amicable.
Talking about heated exchanges, it is unclear if Red Death will be the only villain in season 9. There could be another significant antagonist in the second half of the final season.
Nevertheless, it is good that Leslie would be playing a new character besides Batwoman in the final Earth-Prime-based creative of the Arrowverse.
Even though Superman and Lois are also a part of the Earth-Prime, they belong to a different reality. This makes The Flash the last remaining Earth-Prime-based show of the franchise.
Hopefully, CW will release the trailer for The Flash season 9 soon!
