Warner Bros. Discovery and the DCEU’s major upcoming project, The Flash, has reportedly secured the highest scores in test screenings since Christopher Nolan’s iconic Batman trilogy. The film seems to have the potential to become one of the DCEU’s biggest hits.
Director Andy Muschietti of IT: Chapter 1 and 2 fame is directing the film, which has been developing for years. It will hit the big screens on June 23, 2023.
The film follows Barry Allen, better known as The Flash, traveling back in time to prevent his mother’s murder. However, tampering with time brings unintentional consequences to his timeline. Ezra Miller will reprise his role as Barry Allen in the film.
The Flash is an important film for the future of the DCEU and is being teased as a multiversal epic, supposedly following in the footsteps of the MCU. Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck will also reprise their roles as Batman in the film. The Flash will also introduce us to Supergirl.
However, The Flash has also become one of the most controversial DCEU projects in recent times. Headlines featuring Ezra Miller have been circulating for over two years, with the star being arrested several times.
With Warner Bros. Discovery canceling many ambitious projects, including Batgirl, fans were worried about the future of The Flash. However, it seems like Warner Bros. Discovery is pretty confident about the film’s potential and will not be canceling it despite the troublesome headlines.
It appears that Warner Bros. is still confident about the film because of the brilliant feedback they received from test audiences who have seen the film before others. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Flash has reportedly scored the highest in test screenings since Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy.
Nolan’s Batman films were received phenomenally well, both critically and commercially, and the makers think they have another potential hit in hand with The Flash. Despite the controversy surrounding Miller, the high test scores and feedback from the test audiences have given the studio the confidence to move forward with it.
The Flash scored higher than other upcoming ventures of the DCEU, including Batgirl, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, all of which scored in the 60s. It also shows how Warner Bros. Discovery was willing to invest money in improving Shazam and Black Adam but decided to just cancel Batgirl.
Despite delaying both Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to stick to the initial release date for The Flash. This could be because June 23 was the historic release date for Michael Keaton’s Batman. Hopefully, The Flash will be able to live up to the studio’s expectations.
