The Flash movie has been flashing through many hurdles and hiccups, but it’s finally hitting the big screen with a potential DC Universe reboot on the horizon!
Fans are eagerly waiting for any news on a potential Flash 2. So, is the reboot on the cards for DC fans?
Well, according to The Wrap, there is a script for The Flash 2, written by Aquaman scribe David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and it’s ready to roll.
However, there’s a catch: The Flash 2 will only get the green light if The Flash movie can match or surpass The Batman’s impressive $770 million global box office. That means The Flash 2’s fate depends on how many fans flock to see Ezra Miller’s solo adventure.
If a sequel does happen, The Flash 2 could be a standalone story that doesn’t connect to James Gunn’s DC Universe, similar to The Batman – Part 2 and Joker: Folie à Deux.
The Flash movie hopes to zoom past $70 million in its first weekend in the US, which would be close to what Aquaman made in its debut. The Batman managed to even eclipse the $70 million mark by bagging a mammoth $128.5 million in its opening weekend.
However, Aquaman did better than The Batman worldwide, thanks to its long run and enormous overseas appeal. So, The Flash could still catch up with The Batman’s box office if the universal marketing team works hard enough!
However, that means The Flash will have to keep running strong. The Flash has a 70% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, while The Batman ended with an 85% rating. The Flash’s box office success also depends on how the film will do outside the US. Aquaman, for example, made more than $813 million in other countries alone.
The Flash movie cost around $200 million to produce. That’s about the same as The Batman, which explains why the studio wants The Flash to make as much money as The Batman.
The Batman got a sequel confirmed soon after it left the theaters. This gives us reason to assume that Flash 2’s fate will be decided quickly after The Flash’s box office results are final.
Will The Flash movie be a hit or a miss? Will The Flash 2 get the go-ahead or the stop sign? Only time will tell, but one thing is sure: The Flash fans are in for a thrilling ride.
