The first Witcher, which came out almost 13 years ago, is now permanently free on GOG Galaxy for you to play!
If you haven’t played The Witcher yet, and wish to know how it all started, then now is probably the best time for you to do that. All you got to do is install GOG’s Galaxy Client, then navigate to the ‘Recent’ tab, where the banner for claiming your free copy of The Witcher Enhanced Edition will be present.
After you’ve claimed the game by pressing the giveaway button on the page, it will automatically show up on your account.
Of course, many of you may find it annoying that one has to download the client in order to claim the game, as the offer is unavailable on GOG’s website, and honestly, much of the netizens will agree with you, considering how GOG practically forces you to install their client, which has often been called out as being spyware.
But, then again, one can simply claim the game, and once it shows up on their Steam Library, delete the client almost immediately. This way, your computer won’t have to deal with any more useless clients (There’s probably a lot of them already if you know what I mean) and any form of danger, if it exists, will be averted.
But, coming back to the game, if you’re planning to get into the First Witcher, be prepared to face a lot of jank and clunkiness, along with weird combat mechanics.
However, the story feels excellent, and if you’re someone who’s only played Witcher 3, the first game will be a great way of finding out how the story of the Butcher of Blaviken began, at least in the video games.
Other than that, the Enhanced Edition also includes the game’s soundtrack, the in-game world’s maps, and a lot more other cool stuff, that alone makes it worth the price, which is virtually zero, with the only cost being the installation of the Galaxy client for a short while. So, a pretty good deal all in all.
Anyhow, as I stated earlier, this is probably the best time to experience the first Witcher if you haven’t already, and if installing GOG’s client is not an issue for you, then grab a copy of The Witcher as soon as you can!
