Recently, players have reported a new bug in New World where the NPC Santiago Salazar disappears in middle of the side quest “The First Thing I Remember” in Restless Shore, not allowing players to end the quest and affecting their progress.
Whether you reboot the game or your entire gaming device, Santiago Salazar is just too shy to show his face. Luckily, there is a way to find this NPC, fix the bug, and complete the quest.
How to fix the “The First Thing I Remember” quest bug in New World?
Find Santiago Salazar (NPC) on the beaches of the northwest region of the Restless Shore to fix the bug and complete the “The First Thing I Remember” quest in New World.
The NPC Santiago Salazar is bugged out in New World and has a habit of wandering off to the nearby areas from his original/initial location. He moves away from his location in the middle of the “The First Thing I Remember” quest. Try finding him on the northwest beaches of the Restless Shore region. A greyed-out quest marker should appear on his new location. Talking to him will restore the quest marker on your map.
Note: Do not abandon the quest when facing this bug, or you will be unable to restart the quest as Santiago stays invisible from his initial location.
How to complete the “The First Thing I Remember” quest in New World?
Defeat Santiago’s former crewmates on the Jetsame Isle and Neptune’s Fury Island, then find two journal entries named “The Great Port Heist” and “Captain’s Orders” to complete the “The First Thing I Remember” quest in New World.
I. Looking for clues on Jetsame Isle
“The First Thing I Remember” quest can be started by talking to the oblivious NPC Santiago Salazar, located in the southwest part of the Restless Shore region. This part connects the Restless Shore with the Mainland of Aeturnum through Reekwater and Weaver’s Fen.
The NPC will ask you to find the answers to his oblivious condition by looking for clues on the Jetsame Isle. Jetsame Isle is a small island located just 190 meters east of this location. On this island, defeat the level 41 Lost Pirates and collect Captain Cross’s Manifest from them.
Now, report back to Santiago, who has now bugged out / moved from his initial location. You can find him to the north of the mainland of Restless Shore. This time he will ask you to look for the clues on Neptune’s Fury.
II. Looking for clues on Neptune’s Fury
This Neptune’s Fury is located to the northeast of Santiago’s current location. Upon reaching that island, kill three (3) Lost Pirates and look for the two journal entries “The Great Port Heist” and “Captain’s Orders,” located east and central-north of the island, respectively.
Refer to the map below for the exact locations of the two journal entries.
Once you have collected both the entries, report back to Santiago Salazar on his new location on the northern beaches of Restless Shore and tell him that, “he was not part of the Captain Cross’s crew” to complete the quest.
You will receive an Armor Case (Level 42), 1,990 XP, 90.00 Gold, and 10 Azoth for completing the “The First Thing I Remember” quest in New World.
