Slam Dunk is not just a sports anime, it is an emotion for all otakus. Takehiko Inoue’s portrayal of basketball and its sentiments can capture any wandering mind.
After the anime’s abrupt end in 1996, fans had almost left hope for its revival. Yet, the first Slam Dunk movie was announced after two decades, giving fans a ray of hope.
“The First Slam Dunk” is the appropriately named title of the franchise’s upcoming movie. The film is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on December 3, 2022.
While the release date is out, the plot is still under wraps. This has led to much speculation and most people think it will be a sequel to the unfinished anime.
Recently, the official website of the film revealed a new visual, and it shows the five main players of the Shohoku team:
You can see Akagi, the gorilla leader, and Mitsui and Miyagi. Of course, the tsundere Rukawa and everyone’s beloved rebound king, Sakuragi, are also present.
The Shohoku Vs. Shoyo and Ryonan match was where the original anime series left the plot. The Inter-High arc hasn’t been completed, and Shohoku has quite a few high schools to go against.
The Inter-High Tournaments arc is a huge chunk of the manga, and I’m eager to see how much will be covered next.
Believe me when I say that the next matches will be nothing short of brutal. The reigning team, Kainan, is also waiting for Shohoku like a hawk. I hope that we get a proper glimpse of the movie soon.
