The First Slam Dunk, based on Takehiko Inoue’s Slam Dunk manga, is about a delinquent Hanamichi Sakuragi, who has a long history of being dumped by girls.
On enrolling in Shohoku High School, Sakuragi develops an interest in a girl named Haruko, who has a passion for basketball.
The story then follows Sakuragi as he takes an interest in basketball and where that leads him.
The film is being written and directed by the manga writer Inoue himself. The other staff members include character designer/animation director Yasuyuki Ebara and the technical directors Katsuhiko Kitada, Naoki Miyahara, Toshio Ohashi, and Yu Kamatani.

The iconic sports manga was originally published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1990 to 1996. The manga has a total of 31 volumes which have been released in English by Viz Media. 24 new edition volumes of the manga were published under the Jump Comics Deluxe imprint in 2001–2002.
Toei Animation even adapted the manga into a television anime comprising 101 episodes that aired from October 1993 to March 1996.
Considering the large fan base of the Slam Dunk manga, it will be no surprise if tickets for the film sell out within minutes of becoming available. Those looking forward to watching this film might want to give the manga another read to brush up on their Slum Dunk facts.
