Episode 1 Recap
In the morning, Akane Nishino, the heiress of a large corporation, stands outside her house preparing for school and finds her driver waiting for her.
A mediocre student, Kageno, is a classmate of his who has no interest in her. Despite not remembering Nishino’s name or making her feel special, he strikes Nishino as odd.
As Nishino is asked about the upcoming drama she will appear in, the students surround her in the classroom. While his classmates engaged in mundane discussions, Kageno was utterly lost in his thoughts.
As for Akane, she has worked hard to build good relationships with the teachers and her classmates while getting good grades. Her driver does not answer her call at the end of the day. Thugs brutally beat him up after surrounding him.
After walking home without any clue, Nishino is kidnapped on an empty street by the same people. The drama unfolds as Nishino watches Kageno watching from a distance while she is forcefully taken away.
As soon as Nishino’s kidnappers kidnapped her, they sent her parents a ransom note. The man decides to abuse her sexually instead of waiting around.
A stalker who abused her in the past also abducted her once in the past. He plans to do the same now, but a shadow looks at him through the glass window on the roof and catches his attention.
It takes little effort for the mysterious man to jump into the fray and introduce himself as the Stylish Thug Slayer. He attempts to grab a gun from the masked man, but the knife hits him right on the hands as he tries to pull the trigger.
A few moments later, the Stylish Thug Slayer knocked him out. He casually mentions that he has previously worked as a military man when introducing himself to the masked man. Upon hearing his enemy’s response, he is surprised to learn that he has always wanted to fight a soldier.
It does not take long for them to get to each other’s throats, and they are at it within moments. It was a balanced battle at first, but Stylish Thug Slayer gradually gained the upper hand and said he beat up biker gangs recently.
When the kidnapper realizes he is involved in a fight against the Ski Mask Bersker, he is shocked.
Now that he has been brutally beaten with a bar by the masked man, it’s too late for him. Following Nishino’s release, he warns her against walking home alone anymore. As a result, we discover that Kageno and the Stylish Thug Slayer are Kageno.
Despite the mystery surrounding the identity of the Stylish Thug Slayer, it remains to be discovered. She senses that Kageno also lives a life in the shadows, much like her, but does not have any evidence of it when she meets him the next day. Kageno is tragically run over by a truck while walking on the street a few days after his accident.
A driver failed to look ahead, resulting in an accident. His father ensured that the news of Nishino calling the police didn’t reach the public shortly after he called the police. He remains determined to become an Eminence in the Shadow after losing his life in a road accident.
A secret organization known as Shadow Garden is formed after he gets reincarnated as Cid Kagenou. The police began investigating Kagenou’s death shortly after he died on the spot.

The Eminence in Shadow, a manga by Daisuke Aizawa, started serialization in 2018. It is scheduled to receive an anime in October 2022. An anime film, titled ‘The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes,’ was announced in December 2023.
Cid, the protagonist, is obsessed with becoming a hidden mastermind. Being reincarnated in an isekai world gives him the chance to act on his wishes and build up his power beyond the notice of people.
After rescuing an elf, he forms a squad who are supposed to fight the Diabolos cult which is just a figment of his imagination. However, the cult turns out to be true and now he actually has an enemy to face.
