Episode 5, titled ‘The Duke, a Crow, and Ice Skating,’ marked the return of Cuff, this time joined by her childhood friend Zain.
Earlier in the episode, Viola visited her brother and fell head over heels for his butler, Rob. She asked Rob to insist Duke find a way to break the curse or else his younger brother will take on the family title.
After a few days, Duke and Alice met Zain in his crow form while skating on the ice and helped him meet Cuff.
Before leaving, Cuff informed Duke about a gathering of the witches that happens every blood moon night. She asked him to come over to the meeting to investigate his curse.
The episode ended with Viola revealing to Alice how her mother never pampered her and focused only on the family’s sons.

Episode 6 Preview & Speculation
Cuff’s appearance in the previous episode makes sense now. She is like a connecting bridge for Duke that might help him meet the witch who put a curse on him.
If Duke meets the witch in the witches’ sabbath, we might also see Duke getting rid of his curse and embracing Alice in his arms by the end of this season.
Although it’s unlikely that Duke will meet the witch he is finding in the sabbath and get rid of such a strong curse so quickly, he could at least get a clue about the curse or the witch from there. Moreover, how Alice’s mother is related to Duke’s curse is still questionable.
Later in the episode, Viola revealed that her mother only focused on her brothers, which makes me wonder what kind of personality she holds as we already know she hates Duke. Hopefully, she will make an appearance in the upcoming episodes.
The next episode’s title, ‘The Duke, Alice, and a Night in the Witches’ World,’ indicates we will see Duke and Alice attending the witches’ sabbath under the blood moonlit night.

Episode 6 of The Duke of Death and His Maid (2021), titled ‘The Duke, Alice, and a Night in the Witches’ World,’ will be released on Sunday, August 8, 2021. Since this anime runs on a weekly schedule, new episode releases are seven days apart.

Episode 5 Recap
Viola comes to pay a visit to his brother. She tries to teach Alice how to behave cutely to attract Duke but embarrasses herself in front of Rob.
When Viola returns to the mansion after a few days, she asks Alice to teach her cooking. But Duke asks her to bake some bread with Rob.
While shaping the dough with Rob, Viola comments that she is glad her brother has Rob and Alice to give him emotional support. She asks Rob to tell him to stop goofing around, or their younger brother will take the role of the head of the family.
Later that day, Rob gives Viola some loaves of bread they baked earlier as she leaves for her house. After a few days, Rob watches Alice enjoy skating on the ice when a manly voice suddenly catches her attention.
He looks around to find a crow talking in the human language. The crow tells Duke that he is a magic user and asks him if he met a red-haired girl.
Duke immediately senses that he is the childhood friend of Cuff and tells him that she left suddenly, so she doesn’t know her whereabouts. The crow then transforms himself into his human form and introduces himself to Alice as Zain.
He continues to flirt with Alice, making Duke jealous. Alice reveals that she found Cuff in her bat form on the ice freezing, so she put her inside her blouse to warm her up with the body heat.
The four enjoy skating together on the ice. Zain and Cuff get ready to leave when the day ends. Before leaving, Cuff tells Duke that they can take him to the witches’ sabbath on the night of the following blood moon, where he can investigate the witch who cursed him.
Later that night, Viola comes to Alice’s place to spend the night and calls it a girl’s only party. She shares with Alice that she loves being pampered by her as her mother always focused on her brothers. She falls asleep minutes before Duke comes there.
About The Duke of Death and His Maid
The Duke of Death and His Maid is a 2017 supernatural manga by Koharu Inoue. The manga was serialized on Shogakukan’s Sunday Webry website and finished its run in May 2022.
The story revolves around a young duke named Bocchan who was cursed by a witch in his childhood. His curse can kill anything he touches, making him completely isolated from his loved ones to save their lives. He lives in a mansion on his own but is accompanied by his maid and butler.
He has quite the relationship with his maid Alice and the two grow closer throughout the story.
