In Episode 3, titled ‘The Duke and the Meteor Shower During the Full Moon,’ Alice took Duke along with her to the town market to enjoy the festival together.
Alice bumped into a masked lady in the market, who called her by her mother’s name. Alice was surprised and told her that it’s her mother’s name. She further asked her name, but the lady walked away.
After a few nights, Duke took Alice to watch the meteor shower while sitting in the boat. However, they missed it after both of them fell into the water.
Alice told him that’s okay because they could again come to water the meteor shower after ten years. Duke wondered where they would be ten years from now.

Episode 4 Preview & Speculation
The lady Alice bumped into could be the witch who cursed Duke. Alice’s family has been serving Duke’s family for generations, and around the time Duke got cursed, Alice’s mother was their maid.
This could mean that Alice’s mother is somehow related to why Duke got cursed. Moreover, Alice looked pretty angry about hearing her mom’s name.
Come to think of it; this could also mean that Alice knows everything about the curse, and maybe out of pity, she got affectionate with the Duke. However, the theory is yet to be confirmed, and we hope the mystery will be solved in the next episode.
Judging from the next episode’s title, ‘The Duke, Alice, and Memories of Snow,’ it looks like Duke and Alice will enjoy the snowfall together while sharing the snowfall memories of the past.

Episode 3 Recap
Alice asks Duke to take a trip into town with her. Even though Duke hesitates to go to such a crowded place, Alice assures him that the person he might bump into will be fine with thick clothing.
The following day, Duke dresses up in heavy steel clothing from head to toe and heads out with Alice. In the town market, Duke gets carried away by the crowd.
While Alice searches for Duke, a masked lady recognizes her as Sharon Lendrott. Alice tells her that it’s her mother’s name and asks her who she is. The lady dismisses her question by saying she looks a lot like her mother and walks away.
Meanwhile, Duke sees a piano in the market and sits down to play it, wondering how people will react. To his surprise, everyone gathers and starts to dance around him. So, thanks to the piano, Alice finally unites with Duke.
After the sunsets and the town glows in the light, Duke sees a novelty mask on his face and realizes rumors about his curse are spreading around in the town.
The duo then climbs up to the clock tower. While looking at the sky, Alice tells Duke a folktale about a princess who married the moon after a witch carried her love interest far away.
On hearing this, Duke realizes that even though Alice lives with him in the same mansion, she is the farthest away from him. But, Alice assures him that being close is enough, and they head back home.
After a few nights, Duke takes Alice on a boat to watch a meteor shower. While catching Duke’s flying hat, Alice falls in the water. Duke realizes that he cannot even offer Alice a hand and gets sad. However, Alice asks him for a kiss and tricks him into falling into the water.
Amidst all this, they miss the meteor shower, and Duke gets upset that he couldn’t tell Alice his feelings, as he planned. But, Alice tells him to try again after ten years during the next meteor shower.
About The Duke of Death and His Maid
The Duke of Death and His Maid is a 2017 supernatural manga by Koharu Inoue. The manga was serialized on Shogakukan’s Sunday Webry website and finished its run in May 2022.
The story revolves around a young duke named Bocchan who was cursed by a witch in his childhood. His curse can kill anything he touches, making him completely isolated from his loved ones to save their lives. He lives in a mansion on his own but is accompanied by his maid and butler.
He has quite the relationship with his maid Alice and the two grow closer throughout the story.
