Based on the Donald Ray Pollock’s 2011 novel of the same name, The Devil All the Time is a gothic drama announced in early 2019 and slotted for a 2020 release on Netflix.
1. About The Devil All the Time
Directed by Antonio Campos (The Sinner), the film follows the story of a group of characters, which includes a faith-testing preacher, a corrupt small-town sheriff, a serial killer couple and a bullied kid who grows into a good, but violent man who “knows when to take action.”
2. The Devil All the Time Release Date
The Devil All the Time was supposed to premiere on May 15. However, it was missing from Netflix’s list of May 2020 releases.
We might have to wait until the summer or possibly even fall until the film arrives.
A reason for the delay could be Netflix’s acquisition of the Issa Rae, and Kumail Nanjiani led comedy The Lovebirds, which was going to hit the cinemas but was acquired by Netflix due to the closure of cinemas.
3. The Devil All the Time Cast
The Devil All the Time features a top-tier cast; Spider-Man star Tom Holland will be joined with fellow A-listers Robert Pattison, Jason Clarke, Mia Wasikowska, Haley Bennet, Riley Keough, and Bill Skarsgard.
Holland’s Spider-Man: Far From Home co-star Jake Gyllenhaal is on board as a producer.
Fellow Marvel fan-favorite Sebastian Stan will also be joining in though Stan wasn’t in the initial cast announcement from Netflix.
Originally, Netflix wanted Chris Evans to play the role of Lee Bodecker; however, due to scheduling conflicts, Evans couldn’t commit. The casting team thus would recast Evans’ Marvel co-star Sebastian Stan in the role.
4. The Devil All the Time Synopsis
Netflix describes the film as a gothic drama about a desperate man who turns to prayer and more extreme measures to save his dying wife.
“Set in rural southern Ohio and West Virginia, The Devil All the Time follows a cast of compelling and bizarre characters from the end of World War II to the 1960s.
There’s Willard Russell, a tormented veteran of the carnage in the South Pacific, who can’t save his beautiful wife, Charlotte, from an agonizing death by cancer no matter how much sacrificial blood he pours on his “prayer log.”
