Episode 1 of the Case Study of Vanitas, part 2, titled “A Chance Encounter,” is the latest installment of the anime.
The first episode jumps right into the action. Vanitas and Noe reach Gevaudan and are thrown back in time. They come face to face with the beast, and Jeanne saves them from getting slaughtered. She seems to know the curse-bearer behind the beast and doesn’t want Vanitas to cure them.
Vanitas’ book gets stolen, and it looks like they’ve all traveled back to the future. Who is behind this theft, and what do they really want? Keep watching to find out.
Episode 2 Speculation
In the next episode, we might find out a little more about the beast from Jeanne because it seems like she knows something more about it.
The little girl we saw at the end, Chloe, seems to be the curse-bearer who transforms into the beast. We don’t know her connection to Jeanne yet, but we will find out soon.
Also, it seems like transporting Vanitas and the group to the past was a setup for something more sinister. I think the person who stole his book might have evil ulterior motives we don’t know about.
Astolfo’s involvement, in this case, will also cause trouble for Vanitas and Noe since he’s hell-bent on killing every single vampire, including Noe and Jeanne.
Episode 2 Release Date
Episode 2 of the the Case Study of Vanitas part 2 anime, titled “The Witch and the Young Man”, has been released on Friday, Jan 21, 2022.

Episode 1 Recap
Vanitas and Noe leave Paris for Gevaudan when Dante informs them about the Beast of Gevaudan. Vanitas thinks that the beast is a curse-bearer and wants to eliminate the curse.
After reaching their destination, Vanitas, Noe, Dante, and Johann decide to look around the forest, hoping to find some marks left by the beast.
Noe gets separated from the group as he excitedly explores the woods. Suddenly, it starts snowing, and the forest gets covered in a thick layer of snow.
We find out that the group has been transported to the eighteenth century when a group of soldiers led by King Louis XV’s chief musketeer Antoine is looking for the same beast.
Vanitas explains how the beast was first sighted in the past and was supposedly killed by Antoine. They follow the soldiers and soon find an enormous wolf-like creature attacking them.
The beast has finally shown itself, but Vanitas and the crew never expected it to be so huge.
Meanwhile, Noe is being chased by Astolfo, a Chasseur, who has been transported back in time as well. He intended to kill the beast and every other vampire but, unlike Ronald, doesn’t consider that Vampires can be good.
Since he’s on a blind rampage, he tries to kill Noe as soon as he spots him.
We cut back to Vanitas, who is still being chased by the beast. Jeanne shows up just in time and attacks it. She refers to the beast as Chloe and is determined to kill it. Their battle rages on, and soon they stumble upon Astolfo and Noe.
Astolfo gets excited to see Jeanne and the beast since he wants to kill both of them. His attention gets driven away from Noe, and Vanitas takes this opportunity to save him.
The fight continues, and Vanitas asks Jeanne not to kill the beast because he believes that he can cure the curse-bearer. Jeanne ignores him and continues fighting.
Suddenly, the beast disappears, and the parade of Charlatan surrounds everyone. Vanitas takes out his books to get rid of them, but just as he starts reciting his spell, the chain breaks, and everything disappears.
As the episode ends, we see a girl named Chloe returning to her residence with a mysterious man. The man who now possesses the book of Vanitas walks away.
About The Case Study of Vanitas
The Case Study of Vanitas manga is created by Jun Mochizuka. It started serialization in the Monthly Gangan Joker magazine in December 2015. It is receiving an anime adaptation in July 2021.
Noe, a young vampire, is in search of a cursed book called The Book of Vanitas. However, on his flight to Paris, he comes face to face with Vanitas and realizes that he is a self-proclaimed vampire doctor.
Somehow Noe ends up as Vanitas’ partner to heal vampires who are going feral under an evil influence.
