The Boys Season 4 Finale Explained: We Are In The Endgame Now

The Boys season 4 finale contains numerous key developments, with the ending considerably raising the stakes for the Amazon series’ fifth and final season.

Following the shapeshifter shock in The Boys season 4, episode 7, the squad takes down the Starlight impostor in episode 8.

However, despite their efforts to save Robert Singer’s life, the presidential candidate is defeated in the end. Homelander and Sage’s plan to seize the White House is successful when Singer is caught assassinating Victoria Neuman.

Of course, Singer had no direct involvement in Neuman’s death.

The Boy’s season 4 finale turns dark as Butcher utilizes his newfound talent to murder Neuman. This plays right into Sage and Homelander’s hands, thus handing them the White House.

1. Does Homelander & Sage’s Plan Work?

Although Sister Sage’s plan encounters unforeseen setbacks throughout The Boys season 4, she and Homelander successfully infiltrate the White House. When Singer’s assassination attempt fails, Homelander accepts defeat.

On the other hand, Sage arrives at Vought Tower with a party spirit. She reveals that Singer is being accused of Neuman’s death after a recording of him chastising The Boys for failing to kill her earlier. This implicates the CIA in Neuman’s death and allows a more willing politician to assume presidential duties while citing the 25th Amendment.

Steven Calhoun, the Speaker of the House, takes over as president for the time being, and in the season 4 finale of The Boys, he swears his loyalty to Homelander. Although Calhoun holds the title, the final moments of season 4 reveal that Homelander will be pulling the strings of the US government. He orders Calhoun to declare martial law and form a “veritable army of superheroes” to chase down traitors.

When Season 4 of The Boys concludes, most of the team is in danger. This is most likely how Homelander will implement the detention camps he intends to establish.

It’s unclear whether Sage is referring to that when she expresses her enthusiasm about Phase 2 of her plans. Homelander is just as out of the loop as viewers, so we’ll have to wait until The Boys season 5 to find out what she’s up to next.

Whatever it is, it cannot be good news. Most of The Boys won’t be there to stop or slow them down as Homelander follows through on his pledge to find them.

2. Why Homelander Is Rounding Up The Boys Team ?

Following Butcher’s murder of Neuman, The Boys squad flees, but they do not make it far. In the season 4 conclusion of The Boys, Homelander’s army rapidly finds them, and they have little chance against the Supes. Gen V’s Sam proves a match for Kimiko, and Cate manipulates Frenchie into siding with Vought.

Meanwhile, Love Sausage and his men grab MM at the airport and haul him away before he can fight back. Annie and Hughie nearly have a boat dropped on their car by Cindy, and Hughie is arrested.

3. Does Starlight Get Her Powers Back in Season 4 Finale?

One of the few positive developments for The Boys team in the season 4 finale is Starlight regaining her powers, which occurs at the end. She finds she can use her light again as she and Hughie drive. It’s ideal timing because Cindy attacks them just seconds later. Starlight can fly away; she will use it to face Homelander and Vought in The Boys season 5.

Starlight’s lack of powers pulls her back throughout Season 4, especially because she has no idea why they are malfunctioning.

The disappearance of Starlight’s powers seems to result from her identity crisis throughout season 4, and they likely return because the finale resolves that storyline. Starlight struggles to accept her past and the messy, depressed parts of herself in The Boys season 4.

4. How Kimiko Can Talk In The Boys Season 4’s Finale?

It’s unclear why Kimiko is finding her voice right now, but it’s most likely due to Frenchie. In the season 4 finale of The Boys, she and Frenchie finally declare their affection for one another and begin to forgive themselves for their pasts.

The fact that Kimiko is working through her pain and finding joy prepares her to begin healing. But the possibility of losing Frenchie is perhaps even more devastating, and it drives her to react in ways she’s never been able to before.

5. How does The Boys Season 4 Finale Set Up Ryan’s Villain Arc?

Ryan is largely absent from Homelander’s surprise takeover at the end of The Boys season 4. However, the finale lays the groundwork for a potential villain narrative in Season 5. Grace invites Ryan to meet Butcher before everything goes down because Butcher fears he is finally dying.

Grace and Butcher inform Ryan about Homelander’s objectives and what he did to Becca. Ryan is overwhelmed, and Grace makes a significant mistake. She confesses that they are inside a bunker designed to imprison Supes, adding betrayal to Ryan’s already difficult situation.

When Grace refuses to let Ryan leave, he pushes her, and given his extraordinary power, this reaction kills her. Ryan flees, leaving Butcher to deal with the aftermath. Butcher, realizing Ryan has the potential to become like his father, recalls his visions of Joe Kessler.

Kessler is the “devil” on Butcher’s shoulder, and the fact that Butcher hugs him at this point indicates that he is making a decision. Despite Butcher’s efforts to conceal his hatred for Supes over seasons 3 and 4, Ryan’s acts cause him to loathe all Supes once more.

6. What are Butcher’s Super Powers & Why He Uses Them To Kill Victoria Neuman?

Butcher’s embrace of Kessler pushes him toward a more extreme viewpoint but allows him to unleash the power that The Boys season 4 has hinted at.

Butcher, it turns out, is a Supe due to ingesting Compound V in the hopes of erasing Temp V’s effects. Unfortunately, Butcher’s power appears highly influenced by his Temp V usage. The Boys season 4 finale shows he can summon tumorous tentacles that shoot out of his chest and sever individuals in half.

The Ezekiel murder mystery is now resolved as well.

7. What Homelander Wants From Soldier Boy In The Boys Season 4 Finale’s Post-Credits Scene?

As if the season 4 conclusion of The Boys wasn’t exciting enough, it also includes a post-credits scene that will get fans excited for season 5. Calhoun leads Homelander to what appears to be one of the CIA’s super-secure bunkers. The two look at Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, who was returned to cryosleep after The Boys season 3 concluded. Homelander wonders if the Supe has been present “the whole time.” But he doesn’t say what he wants from him.

There are two options for why Homelander is looking for Soldier Boy, and neither is likely to end well. Given that Soldier Boy is almost as powerful as Homelander, it’s possible that The Seven’s leader needs his assistance in collecting up traitors and non-Supes.

Soldier Boy would be a valuable asset, provided he listens to Homelander. The other explanation is that Homelander is still looking for his father’s favour, which he badly wants throughout The Boys. Given his tearful expression, the latter seems more likely. In any case, expect more of Soldier Boy in Season 5.

The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.

The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
