Everyone was horrified when Homelander declared his love for Starlight in The Boys S3. But what was even more shocking (for Erin Moriarty who plays the character too) is that Starlight did not rebut this — Instead she collaborated with Homelander by kissing him!
You cannot tell me that Starlight and Homelander are actually in love. Will they continue dating each other in S3?
Starlight and Homelander may continue dating for the remainder of The Boys S3. Homelander will use this relationship to clean up his image and improve his ratings, while Starlight will leverage it to find his weakness and kill him.
Both of them agree to this spontaneous relationship with an agenda of their own. Let’s break it down!
Homelander and Starlight’s Dangerous Tango
When Homelander is on the verge of losing it all in S3, he realizes that once he burns that bridge, he really is invincible. As he says, he will have nothing more to lose and he doesn’t mind being feared if he can’t be loved.
Obviously, that’s not entirely true. Because as much as his “I’m the real superhero” speech gets him his ratings back, he realizes that his ratings would jump to 98% if he teams up with Starlight. He still wants to be loved, he still wants to be on people’s minds and so, he needs Starlight.
Homelander’s love declaration catches Starlight by surprise but reluctantly, she knows what she has to do. In light of Hughie telling her how the Boys are close to finding a weapon that can end Homelander, she has to appease him and keep him distracted. Thus, she seals the deal with a kiss.
Despite how noble her intentions are, it may not end well for Starlight, Moriarty tells TV Line. Homelander is a dangerous person to dupe and he won’t hesitate to hurt Starlight once he finds out she’s using him like he’s using her.
But Moriarty isn’t afraid of Starlight going through physical damage. Since the beginning, Starlight has been sacrificing a lot to bring Homelander and Vought down. But it is mentally and emotionally exhausting for her to stretch herself thin for the mission.
Added to this, even Hughie doesn’t seem to understand the risks she’s taking to put on this facade. Him encouraging or even slightly coercing her to do it is not healthy for their relationship.
At the end of it, will Starlight’s sacrifice be worth it? Or, will Homelander once again emerge triumphant? It’s all left to be seen.
About The Boys
The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.
The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
