Is Queen Maeve alive in The Boys Season 3 Episode 7?

Queen Maeve’s appearance in The Boys Season 3 Episode 5 was brief but significant. At first, she relapsed after 4 months of sobriety and then slept with Butcher in an intoxicated state.

Next, she had an intense encounter with Homelander, at the end of which she got attacked by Black Noir. Considering the killing spree Homelander is notorious for, everyone’s worried if Queen Maeve is really?

Queen Maeve is still ALIVE. After being captured by Black Noir, we see her sit in a high-tech prison made for supes from which she can’t break out. The location of the prison is undisclosed.

Queen Maeve was one of the first characters introduced in The Boys. She’s perhaps the only supe other than Starlight in The Seven with good in her. In season 3, right from the beginning, she wanted Homelander dead.

In fact, she gave Billy Butcher and the boys everything they needed to try and get the job done. She gave Butcher Compound V24 vials and also gave him info about Soldier Boy. While the latter was a dead end, and the boys found no weapon, they managed to convince Soldier Boy to kill Homelander.

When Billy ran out of the serum, she provided him with many more vials and slept with him on the same night. I wouldn’t make too much of this encounter. It’s just two broken people seeking momentary solace and venting their emotions.

The main part of the episode was the conversation between Homelander and her. The former is out to get anyone who’s against him. With Stan Edgar gone, Homelander has the ultimate power and is already causing chaos.

When he meets Queen Maeve, he interrogates why she is meeting up with Butcher. His superhuman senses catch Butcher’s smell on her, and nothing she says matters to him. So he suspects she’s been plotting to kill him and is not letting her ‘squirrel’ her way out of this one.

He rants about how great they were together and how much he loved her. However, she stops pretending to be nice and tells him how much she hates him. In fact, she felt pity for his existence and how deep his insecurities were rooted.

Next thing you know, Black Noir sneaks up on her and attacks her. We don’t see anything else in the show. Later, when Starlight asks Ashley about Maeve, she says that Maeve relapsed and was sent to the wellness center.

However, Starlight isn’t taking that as an answer. She, in turn, tells the newly appointed CEO that she wants to speak to Maeve. But Ashley conveniently says that the supe is on a digital detox.

In episode 7, we see Homelander visit Maeve in a prison. She doesn’t have her superhero attire on, and the prison seems to be built specifically for superheroes. The two have a conversation and Homelander reveals that he is keeping Maeve alive, to harvest her eggs.

This way he can create offsprings that would have Homelander and Maeve’s genes and would be twice as powerful as his son, Ryan. Earlier, when Maeve said she pitied him, there was an interesting parallel drawn to Soldier Boy and Crimson Countess’ relationship.

How Soldier Boy Killed Crimson Countess

Soldier Boy and Crimson Countess were two supes from team Payback. They were the original superhero team which was the most known one in all of America. Soldier Boy was the leader, and Crimson Countess was his girlfriend.

In episode 5, when Soldier Boy escapes from Russia and seeks out Crimson Countess, he tells how much he loved her. The latter retorts in the exact words Queen Maeve had for Homelander. She hated him.

After Soldier Boy is done interrogating her, he quite literally annihilates her with an energy blast from the chest. If we compare this with the dynamic of Homelander and Maeve, we’ll find a few similarities.

Both Homelander and Soldier Boy were the leaders of America’s most famous superhero team. Both of them had supe girlfriends who were second-in-command of the teams. Both the girlfriends, Maeve and Crimson Countess, hated their respective partners.

While we’ve already seen Crimson Countess die, does this mean Maeve will die too? In the comics, Maeve dies trying to protect Starlight. Homelander might next look in Starlight’s direction to kill her. Right now, his hands are tied because of her popularity and rating.

But if pushed enough, he would impulsively try and kill the young supe. Maybe Starlight would try and find Maeve and in an attempt to break her out of the prison, Homelander would kill the Queen. While this is merely speculation we just have to wait and see how it all unfolds in the finale.

About The Boys

The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.

The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
