On January 30, 1969, The Beatles played an unannounced rooftop concert at 3 Saville Row, which would also serve as the band’s last performance. Now, exactly 30 years later, you can rewatch the concert, as it will have a limited IMAX release this year on the same date!
The rooftop concert footage was already a feature of the recently released documentary, The Beatles: Get Back, on Disney+.
While the documentary is broken up into three parts, with an overall running time of 468 minutes, the rooftop IMAX movie will only be an hour long and feature the concert in its entirety. As such, it has been digitally remastered and optimized for IMAX screens, giving fans an experience like none other!
The screening will be available across 25 US states in multiple cities and the tickets are already on sale. But the real cherry on the top is that after the screening, there will be a Q&A session with the documentary’s director Peter Jackson.
As it is only a one-night event in the US, it is advised to purchase your tickets at your earliest convenience.
Following this, The Beatles: Get Back – The Rooftop Concert will be available theatrically in other countries from February 11 to 13. Rest assured that it will be out on DVD and Blu-ray in the US, February 8 onwards.
Irrespective of whether you will be catching the rooftop performance in IMAX, I still encourage you to watch the whole documentary on Disney+ as it covers the band’s time during the making of their 1970 album ‘Let It Be.’
Fun tidbit: The working title of the album was ‘Get Back’ and hence the name of the documentary.
The documentary has gained critical acclaim for its immersive view into the workings of the band (both the good and not-so-good) and has highlighted some intimate moments that have gone into making The Beatles the phenomenon they continue to be today.
About The Beatles: Get Back – A Sneak Peek
The Beatles: Get Back – A Sneak Peek is an upcoming three-part documentary series directed and produced by Peter Jackson.
The series covers the making of the Beatles’ 1970 album Let It Be, which had the working title of Get Back, drawing from material originally captured for director Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s 1970 documentary.
