As the DC fandom gears up for DC FanDome, the anticipation for new DC content (most prominently for The Batman) has been immeasurable.
And in the true spirit of celebrating Batman Day, The Batman composer Michael Giacchino gave fans a tiny snippet of the theme for the upcoming DC movie.
The 28 seconds clip shows an orchestra performing the theme, which seems dark and gloomy but, at the same time, peacefully melodic. Giacchino tagged DC FanDome in the tweet, hinting that the full theme could be released at the event.
Scores for the Batman films have always been haunting and captivating. The Tim Burton ones had Danny Elfman. Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Zack Snyder’s BvS: Dawn of Justice were scored by Hans Zimmer.
Given that director Matt Reeves dramatically got on one knee to ask Giacchino to score the film’s soundtrack at an event at London’s Royal Albert Hall, you can bet the whole soundtrack is going to be a good one.
Last year, Giacchino talked to ReelBlend podcast about why he chose Nirvana’s ‘Something in the Way’ for the first teaser and said that his theme ‘lied in perfectly against that song.’
The composer also explained his process in writing the theme,
I just had an idea one day, and I was like, ‘Oh, this, you know, in knowing the character that Matt is bringing to the screen, I just thought this, to me, feels like… if I were Batman, if I were Matt Reeves as Batman, what would be going through my head as I stood up on top of some building and just looked at the city?’ And I thought, ‘Yeah, this is what would get me going through my head.’

And of course, Reeves loved the almost 40 minutes long piece Giacchino had written, and they recorded bits of it to use for the trailers. The two have previously worked together on Cloverfield, Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War for the Planet of the Apes.
Giacchino is no stranger to superhero movies; his works include Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, among others.
For Batman Day, Reeves also shared a new snap of the editing process with Pattinson’s Batman on screen after almost a year since the teaser’s release.
The film will star Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, along with Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman.
The Batman is currently slated for a theatrical release on March 4th, 2022.
