Episode 23 is the most recent installment of the Aquatope on White Sand titled “The Future of the Aquarium.”
The Aquatope on White Sand is nearing its end, and the second last episode was one of the finest of the season. Kukuru and Fuuka’s growth throughout the series is most evident as Kukuru urges her friend to follow her dreams.
She finally accepts that she can still make an impact on sea life while working at the Sales department and plans to learn more under the vice director. Fuuka decides to leave Tingarla for two years and study in Hawaii for the new research team.
Will Fuuka be selected as one of the two new members of the USTD? We’ll find out in the final episode.
Episode 24 Speculation
In the latest episode, the director announced that they’d have a new research team for the aquarium. Fuuka wants to be a part of the team but doesn’t want to leave Kukuru for two years of training in Hawaii.
Kukuru convinces Fuuka to follow her dreams and find a new goal for herself. She plans to learn more about sales under the vice director.
In the next episode, we’ll see whether Fuuka is selected for the research team and who else will become the new member of the research team. We also might see the two friends reunite after two years if Fuuka goes to Hawaii along with the progress they’ve made.

Episode 23 Recap
The episode begins with an announcement being made by the director of Tingarla. He plans to operate on the USTD Aquatope project where USTD stands for “Underwater and Sea Life Truly, Desires!”
This project will aim to research and study creatures related to breeding and all sorts of topics surrounding aquatic life and even recent marine environmental issues.
The first two crew members will be chosen from the staff itself, and the selected members will be sent to Waihana Aquarium in Hawaii for two years of training.
Fuuka seems conflicted because, on the one hand, she wants to go abroad and be a part of the research team, but on the other, she can’t imagine living without Kukuru. The next day, Kukuru has an interview for becoming a caretaker with the director.
He mentions how she has been dismissed by the vice-director who wants her to work in the sales department. She expresses how she has always wanted to be near marine life but seems to be drifting further away.
Later we see Kaoru excitedly talk about her wanting to be a part of the research team. Fuuka wishes her luck and tells her that she’s rooting for her. Kaoru smiles and says that Fuuka too is interested in environmental issues and that she should apply too since this is a rare chance.
Fuuka answers that while she is interested, she doesn’t want to be away from Kukuru. Kukuru overhears their conversation, upset that she might be holding Fuuka back.
At the end of the day, we see Fuuka working on her application for the research team. She seems to have overcome her fear of losing Kukuru and works diligently.
The next day, all the applicants give their presentations inside the aquarium, while Fuuka is the only one who asks the board members to come outside.
She talks about the bottleneck dolphin and invites some toddlers and the selection committee to give her presentation.
After the presentations are over, Kukuru and Fuuka sit together, discussing their future. Kukuru tells her that she doesn’t plan on leaving the sales department and feels like she still has things to learn from the vice director.
Fuuka tells her that she wants to go abroad but doesn’t want to leave her.
Kukuru encourages her, saying that Fuuka has always been like an elder sister to her, but now it was her turn to be the elder. She reassures her that she’ll be waiting for her after returning from Hawaii. The two watch the bottleneck dolphin find its way back to the ocean and share a precious moment.
About The aquatope on the white sand
The aquatope on the white sand is an upcoming anime television series produced by P.A.Works.It is scheduled to release in July 2021.
The anime takes place at Gama Gama Aquarium. Kukuru Misakino is an 18-year-old high school student who works there, and she knows about the “secret” of the aquarium: sometimes you can see mysterious things.
One day Kukuru meets Fuuka, standing in front of a water tank with flowing hair and a tear rolling down her cheek. Fuuka has given up on her dream of becoming an idol and she has run away from Tokyo to Okinawa.
Wanting to find a place to belong, Fuuka earnestly asks to work at the aquarium.
