‘The Apothecary Diaries’ has become one of the biggest surprise hits of the Fall 2023 season. Following episode 12 of season 1 on December 24, it was revealed that the show will not release a new episode.
Thankfully, the series will return as season 1 has a consecutive two-cour run. Fans are happy to know that the anime will continue with part 2, which will premiere after a short hiatus.
TOHO animation streamed a promotional video for the anime ‘The Apothecary Diaries.’ The anime’s second cours (a quarter of a year) will debut on January 6 and be streamed on Crunchyroll.
The trailer gives glimpses of future episodes and new theme songs. Uru performed the captivating opening theme, “Ambivalent,” and Wacci performed the mesmerizing ending theme, “Ai wa Kusuri” (Love is Medicine).
Part 2 will start with episode 13 and continue the story from where it previously left off in episode 12. Episode 13 will showcase Maomao officially joining the Imperial Palace.
Episode 12 mainly focused on the repercussions of Fengmin’s crime and squarely depicted Maomao being fired from the Imperial Palace and returning to Hanamachi.
The franchise announced two new cast members.

Toho Animation and OLM will continue to work on the adaptation, and the staff of the previous cours will return.
In the fall of 2023, viewers showed the most interest in ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ season 2 and ‘Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.’ However, ‘The Apothecary Diaries,’ an anime produced by OLM, also gained much attention for its unique concept and memorable characters.
The show is currently on hiatus but is expected to return soon and gain even more popularity. If you enjoy detective series, this is definitely a show you should watch, but be sure to watch the previous episodes first. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates.
About The Apothecary Diaries
‘The Apothecary Diaries’ is a light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. The series will be receiving an anime adaptation in 2023.
The story follows a young girl, Maomao, who is the daughter of an apothecary and possesses an extensive knowledge of medicine and herbs. When she is kidnapped and sold to the rear palace, she is forced to navigate life in this new, foreign environment.
