Maomao and Jinshi get to the bottom of the conspiracy in episode 20 of ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ titled “Thornapple.” Someone has conspired Jinshi’s death, and Maomao explains how the execution came through.
All the past murders and cases connect to each other to make one big conspiracy to kill Jinshi. The blame falls on Suirei, who was found dead in her room after she drank poison. However, is Suirei really the only person involved?

2. Episode 21 Speculation
Jinshi’s real identity is pretty much confirmed despite not being acknowledged. Jinshi is nineteen in reality and is, in fact, not a eunuch, which means he is only putting up an act so he can be out of the line of succession.
Ah-Duo’s case made it pretty apparent that Jinshi is royal blood, but he wants nothing to do with the responsibilities that come with it. Now that Gyoukuyou might be pregnant, the birth of a prince might mean the new heir to the throne will be confirmed.
Meanwhile, Suirei has pulled off an extremely brave trick, and Maomao is impressed and thrilled at the same time. Suirei’s involvement in the conspiracy means that she knows Jinshi’s truth. Lady Loulan has also been a suspicious character in the story so far.
Maomao refuses to believe that Suirei could be the sole perpetrator in all of this, which means someone might have put her up to this, or maybe they both shared a goal. Maomao will reach the end of this as her curiosity will not let her give up.
3. Recap of episode 20
Maomao wakes up in Jinshi’s bedroom and gets dressed up. Jinshi asks Maomao to explain the events, and she tells him about the conspiracy. All the past incidents and deaths have been connected to each other, and the mastermind skillfully got rid of everything that could lead back to them.
Maomao wonders just how important Jinshi is for someone to make such an elaborate plan to kill him. However, she knows that getting involved further would only mean trouble. Basan visits Maomao to inform her of Suirei’s death, who was involved with the case.
Maomao asks about other co-conspirators, but Basan says it was only Suirei. However, Maomao finds it hard to believe that Suirei would simply commit suicide. Maomao requests Jinshi to let her talk to the morgue doctor.
Maomao finds somebody else’s corpse instead of Suirei’s and reveals that Suirei took advantage of the doctor’s feelings for her. Suirei made a drug that can kill a person and then resurrect them later.
Maomao is so impressed by Suirei’s skills and ability to trick everyone that she would like to meet her so she can also learn how to make the fantasy drug. Jinshi has to keep drinking medicine to conceal his manhood and keep up the pretense of being a eunuch.
Jinshi, the twenty-four-year-old eunuch, is actually a lie; he is nineteen and not a eunuch. Jinshi visits all the concubines and finds Gyoukuyou very exhausted. Maomao is requested at the rear palace as Gyoukuyou might be pregnant.
Maomao returns to work in the rear palace. Since the rear palace does not allow men, Maomao has no chance of running into Lakan, making her wonder if Jinshi is looking out for her. One of the princesses of the Verdigris House gets brought out.
