We catch a glimpse of the thoughts that run inside Jinshi’s brain. Jinshi is beautiful but average in every other sense, so the emperor has assigned him to the rear palace. Jinshi is self-aware and has accepted his fate. He will do his best with what he is dealt with.

Jinshi wants Maomao to give the Court Lady Exams, which scares her. While Jinshi is busy with official work, Gaoshun shows Maomao around.
However, the place is vast, and Maomao focuses more on herbs growing around the outer court. The court ladies of the outer court ambush Maomao as she is directly assigned to Jinshi.
However, Maomao easily tricks them into believing that Jinshi only hired her because he pitied her. The ladies leave, but Jinshi hears the whole thing, which makes Maomao run away.
Jinshi is surprised that Maomao failed the Court Lady Exam. Maomao becomes Jinshi’s personal servant. Maomao spots special herbs and immediately starts inspecting them, but one of the court ladies reprimands her. Maomao smells something strange on her.
The episode ends with a man watching Maomao with interest.
