3. Episode 8 Recap
New term begins, and coincidentally, Amane, Itsuki, Chitose, and Mahiru all end up together. Yuta, also in the same section, tries to become friends with Amane and Itsuki. Amane is reminded of some bad memories from his past by Yuta’s gesture.
At Amane’s apartment, Mahiru notices Amane looking down. To cheer him up, she requests him to lay down on her lap so that she can stroke his hair. Amane is a little confused at first but relaxes soon and falls asleep on Mahiru’s lap.
Amane wakes up an hour later, embarrassed. Mahiru, having grown closer to Amane, assures him he can lean on her like she did.
Amane gets stuffed animals for Mahiru at the arcade. She loves them but goes red-faces when she finds Amane staring at her. To distract her, Amane pets her head. Mahiru is thankful for everything Amane does for her and ask to do something in return, and he requests a pudding.
The next day, Amane enjoys the pudding Mahiru makes her and tells her that her cooking is the highlight of the day. His shower of compliments makes Mahiru shy, and she hides her face again.
At school, Yuta asks to have lunch with Itsuki and Amane. Itsuki is happy that Yuta has grown to appreciate Amane as well. Amane asks Yuta why he wants to be friends when there is nothing in it for him, and he replies that friendships are not made for profit, which makes Amane happy. Amane notices Mahiru pouting.
Amane asks Mahiru about the reason for her pouting after dinner and apologizes if he did anything. Mahiru quickly tells him it’s her own fault for being narrow minded. She reveals she is jealous that everyone else but her can be casual with him and chides him again for putting himself down.
They decide to interact at school, too, one step at a time. Mahiru and Chitose ask to work with Amane and Itsuki on a group cooking project, warranting some jealous stares from other boys. The four hang out after classes, teasing Amane for being bad at chores.
Chitose is surprised to find Amane being able to handle cooking more in the cooking classroom next day. After the preparations, they set out to plate everything, when a few students fooling around leads to them accidentally pushing a student carrying hot food. Mahiru almost gets burned but is saved by Amane. He gets angry at the students, and they apologize.
Mahiru is a little upset of Amane being so cautious with interacting with her in front of others. He pats her head again to calm her, which to her own annoyance, works.
