Philomela tries to send the deity back using the magic book, but her grandmother invades her mind, trying to break her from the inside. Philomela fights back using the rune Chise gave her earlier. Once she regains consciousness, she realizes that the deity cannot be sent back, so she takes a gamble and summons an even stronger deity to defeat this one. Luckily, things turned out in their favor, and the danger is averted.
The beast we see earlier with Zaccheroni, suddenly comes in, killing Lizbeth Sargant and stealing the magic book. Zaccheroni comes chasing it, but the beast gets away. Ainsworth takes the kids to his home, where they spend a cheerful day after this dreadful series of events. In the end, it’s revealed that the beast is actually Veronica’s familiar, and she ordered it to steal the magic book.

2. Episode 13 Speculation
Episode 13 will be a part of the next season of the anime, but it has yet to be confirmed for a third season. That is not to say that the series will not receive a third season, but it is hard to know if and when that will be announced. The bad news is that the third season has no release date yet. However, based on the previous seasons’ schedules, we can expect The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 3 to premiere sometime in 2024.
In the last episode of this season, we saw that Veronica stole the magic book from Philomela, so she’s bound to be planning something. Now, with the curse lifted from Philomela, she can live a happy life with his friends. She lost a lot of things she held dear but also gained the freedom she wished for. One chapter of the story comes to an end with this. Whatever the next season may have in store for us, it will surely be the dawn of a new tale.
3. Recap of Episode 12
After Philomela and Chise retrieve the magic book from the deity, it spits out Lizbeth’s body. Philomela uses her friends’ magic to open the grimoire and starts reading the chant to send the deity back. As she attempts this, her grandmother invades her mind with the last of her strength to break her from the inside.
This time, Philomela does not back down, and with the rune that Chise gave her earlier, she fights her grandmother in the mind space. She calls upon a lightning attack, removing Lizbeth from the scene. Once she gains consciousness, she realizes that sending this deity back is impossible.
She then casts another spell to summon an even stronger deity, hoping it will engulf this one. It was a massive risk, but everything went according to plan. From what goddess Morrigan said, it seemed like the other deity’s reason to help them was partially Chise. Once the danger is gone, the goddess bids farewell to everyone.
Adam’s hex talks to Lizbeth, who’s on death’s door one last time. She asks him why Adam didn’t come to kill her; he could do it if he wanted to. In return, the hex calls her a pitiful woman, saying she grew so strong that she refused to let anyone come close to her and that is the thing which brought her demise.
Once the hex disappears, Philomela approaches her grandmother, asking why she attacked the Webster family. She refuses to answer, but before she finishes talking, a little beast we saw earlier with Zaccheroni cuts her head off, snatching the magic book from Philomela. Zaccheroni appears with Zoe right after this happens and attacks the beast.
Chise orders Ruth to go after it, but the werewolf from earlier stops both Zaccheroni and Ruth as it’s revealed that the little beast is her child. The beast runs away, and Zaccheroni goes after it. Ainsworth tells Chise to take it easy, and it’s time to go home.
Next, we see Philomela waking up in Ainsworth’s house next to Zoe and Lucy. She comes out of the room and is met with Silver. Silver helps her change into warmer clothes. Philomela goes out of the house only to see snowy fields for as far as she can see. After a while of walking, she finds Chise, and later, Rian and Tory find them there.
Ainsworth joins them in the field, and after telling Tory to take the kids home, he accompanies Chise in meeting the Mistress of Winter, Goddess Morrigan, in the forest. Chise offers the snowdrop branches she collected, and the body of the goddess fades away, leaving a trail of fresh snowdrop flowers.
After returning to the house they spend a cheerful day after many traumatic events. They all decorate the tree together, have dinner, and play games. All of them do this to make Philomela feel loved. After the near-death experience she went through, she didn’t know what to do now that she was free and on her own. Through Chise and the others’ help, Philomela finally regains her smile.
