Philomela drowns in her own desires, and everyone is ejected from that world of the subconscious. She wakes up first and runs off to the underground chamber where her grandmother is to make her wishes come true. Chise and the others wake up soon, and after they settle down a bit, they decide to chase after Philomela again.
On the other side, Philomela’s grandmother never intended to help Philomela. Her plan was to use her as a sacrifice to bring Adam back. Hearing this, Philomela gives up all hope, but Chise and her friends arrive at the perfect time to save her from her grandmother’s evil clutches.

2. Episode 11 Speculation
After a long battle, Philomela’s friends are finally able to save her from the hands of certain death. As Philomela faces her true wishes, Chise reaches out and grabs her hand firmly, assuring her that she’ll never let her go. But the danger isn’t entirely over yet. The magic book is still inside her, overflowing with magic and slowly eating away at her life.
The next episode is titled “Of Two Evils Choose the Less” and in the preview, we see Philomela’s grandmother with the magic book and as she has turned into a corrupted version of herself. How the book was extracted is yet unknown. Ainsworth may be able to remove the book from her, but nothing can be said with assurance yet.
3. Recap of Episode 10
Just as we start to think that Chise and her friends finally saved Philomela, her corrupted personality manifests there and drowns her in her own desires. Her wish to bring her parents back proves to be stronger than the wishes of her friends.
On the outside, the tree that grew out of Philomela’s body bore a giant fruit and released everyone from the world of consciousness it created. During all this, Ainsworth takes control of Alcyone and releases the spell Philomela’s grandmother put on her heart.
Even though most of Philomela’s body has healed after coming out of the fruit, her fingers still haven’t regenerated. She runs off towards some underground basement before the others wake up. Once Chise and everyone else are awake, they go after Philomela again.
We see a flashback of her grandmother and a bit of Adam Sargant’s childhood. Even though he didn’t have the usual mother-and-son relationship with his mom, she didn’t exactly hate him either since he was intelligent.
She despised Philomela because she looked identical to him but at the same time so different in nature. To her, it was like the bad omen of Philomela’s mother. As the flashback ends, Philomela reaches the chamber where her grandmother is.
It is then revealed that she planned to make Philomela store magic inside her body so that she could be used as a sacrifice to resurrect Adam. Philomela hesitates to go near her due to the conflict in her mind, but the guards soon capture her.
She completely gives up all hope and accepts her fate. As she lies down in the magic circle, her body starts disintegrating. Just as all hope seems lost, Chise and the others rush into the room to save her.
She tells Philoemela that her wish matters the most. If she wishes to live and not give up, no one can take her life away. All she needs to do is keep hoping and just say what she wants. Philomela reaches her hand towards them as she screams for help. Chise makes up her mind as she jumps toward her.
Ainsworth stops her midway as the circle is made to summon a deity, and she should be careful when dealing with such a power. After hearing to Lucy’s advice, she decides to use magic and shatters the seal of the circle, pushing the deity back. Philomela is finally saved.
