After Chise and her friends encounter Philomela with a decaying body, they try to save her, but Lucy loses her cool after seeing the spiders in her room. 2. Episode 10 Speculation
The next episode will be the conclusion of the Philomela rescue mission. The episode is titled “Give a Thief Enough Rope and He’ll Hang Himself”. We will see a lot about Philomela’s past that was hidden till now and Chise’s final attempt at saving her friend from this curse.
We might also see something about Philomela’s grandmother. Judging from the title of the episode, it may feature some kind of redemption from her as she finally understands Philomela and tries to save her.
3. Recap of Episode 9
The episode starts with the battle between Zoe and the werewolf. Zoe thinks to himself that he always gets laughed at for not being able to use his powers properly, but it’d be a lot worse this time.
His powers get out of control, and a creepy transformation happens briefly without him realising. He quickly gets rid of the curse controlling the werewolf. Once free from the mind manipulation, she thanked Zoe before leaving.
Inside the mansion, Philomela’s body starts to disintegrate from the magic book’s effects. We see one of Alcyone’s memories that shows Philomela severing her soul from the body and entrusting Alcyone with it. She returns it to her to delay the decay, but it is effectless.
The group enters the mansion and encounters Alcyone, who tells them that only the kids can go up to see Philomela, and Ainsworth has to stay back. Chise and others go up and find her in the office in a decaying state.
Lucy notices the spiders in the room and, suddenly losing her cool, starts fighting with Philomela. The two of them eventually break down crying. Chise steps in as the magic from Philomela’s body overflows, and they all enter a collective mind space.
Chise finds Philomela first as they both appear as kids, and they start to wander around and gather lost pieces of Philomela’s consciousness. She sees some of Chise’s past as they run through the memory corridor. They reach the roof of the school at the end of the corridor.
There, Philomela asks Chise why she is helping her even though she tried to kill them. Chise tells her that the current Philomela has the same eyes that Chise once had, and many people helped her fix herself, piece by piece. So, she wants to do the same for Philomela. The two of them continue to look for the others.
They run into Issac next, and the three of them have little fun moments while looking for Lucy. Lucy dashes into Chise after the three enter a room full of cobwebs. Lucy, Chise and Issac were having a deep talk with Philomela when a flashback suddenly starts playing from when Lucy’s family was assassinated.
Lucy gets mad once again but calms down quickly after realizing Philomela didn’t have any choice or power to stop that incident from happening. When the group starts to think Philomela is saved suddenly, the cursed figure of Philomela appears and captures the young Philomela.
