HBO Max’s Green Lantern Series Will Be ‘Gigantic’, Shares Showrunner

In a list of iconic superheroes that fans remember, Green Lantern is one of those who always gets sidelined. HBO Max and showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith hope to break that notion with their upcoming “gigantic” Green Lantern series.

The superhero’s time to shine was thwarted again when reports revealed he would not be included in the Arrowverse. However, he won’t need to because Grahame-Smith and the team are “very, very busy” in making Green Lantern show a huge success.

In an interview with Collider, the showrunner revealed that the show is huge, with our guess being in both production and story-telling. He didn’t disclose much information about the show but confirmed there will be multiple Green Lanterns in it.

When the interviewer mentioned that being a showrunner for the series would be an “enormous undertaking,” he said:

Yeah, that show is gigantic. It has taken quite a bit of time to get to this point, and it’s just a big, big undertaking. It’s going really well. All I can say is that it’s going really well and there are gonna be Green Lanterns in it, and it’s gonna be on HBO Max.

He even shared that he was one of the guys who loved the mainstream superheroes first, but the green caped superhero slowly grew up on him.

He wasn’t even a fan of the comic books. He even mentioned the “Green Lantern lore” and is doing a deep dive in it, something DC hasn’t done yet.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t like a huge comic book kid. I was a huge movie kid. And so, my introduction to DC Comics came through the ’89 Batman movie. When that movie came out, I was like, “Oh, my God, Batman is the coolest,” and I started reading Batman comic books.

But Green Lantern is something that, to be honest with you, just came to me later, by way of just talking about doing the show. The possibility of doing the show led me down a deep dive of Green Lantern lore. We’ll see. It’s gonna be awhile before the world gets to see that, but we are very, very busy at work, as we speak.

With multiple Green Lanterns from different eras being a part of the series, a lot is riding on the show to give the superhero his pride back, especially after the 2011 Ryan Reynolds movie, which writer Marc Guggenheim wants to get right this time.

The showrunner also shared that there’s a whole lot of time before fans can get a glimpse into the Green Lantern universe.

About Green Lantern

Green Lantern is now going to air on HBO Max as a TV show, is an adaptation of 2011 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name.

The series is based on the DC characters, from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. If the cast is confirmed, Irvine and Finn Wittrock have been casted.

Written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Seth Grahame-Smith, Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott (Irvine), and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner (Wittrock) and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.
