Tenki No Ko is Japan’s Pick for Oscar consideration

Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name was an epic story and movie but still not a nominated for an Oscar. With bated breath, everyone has been waiting to see if Tenki No Ko gets nominated for an Oscar. After Tenki No Ko was denied a nomination for Best Animated Feature, a brand new report has filled Japan and fans with joy. Makoto Shinkai’s latest film Weathering With You has been submitted by Japan for Oscar consideration in the International Feature Film category.

Recently, Hollywood Reporter hit fans with amazing news.

“The new film from the director of ‘Your Name’ is the first anime to be selected as Japan’s entry in the category since Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘Princess Mononoke’ in 1998.”

The 92nd Academy Awards will be held in 2020 according to schedule and hopefully, Tenki No Ko will get the nod Japan so sorely needs. The film has just about crossed $100 million in collections. His previous film, Your Name smashed all records collecting $358 million worldwide, a record that was previously held by Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away.

The plot of Tenki No Ko

In the middle of his first year at secondary school, Hokoda runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo. He rapidly ends up being pushed to his financial and psychological limit thanks to the various adversities he has to deal with. The climate is strangely gloomy and consistently stormy, as though to predict his future. He lives his days in detachment. However, he finds a job as a writer at a magazine company where magic seems to be at play. On the day of his joining, Hokoda meets Hina on the corner of a busy street. This bright and strong­ willed young lady has an unusual but awesome superpower: the ability to stop the rain and clear the sky.
