Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 9: Colin Comes Out as Gay

Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 has continued to develop several major storylines that have been the focus of the show.

1. Jack and Keeley’s Relationship Ends

In Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9, one of the significant reveals is the confirmation that Jack and Keeley’s relationship has officially ended.

The romance, which was once effortless, took a turn in the previous episode, resulting in Jack leaving Keeley’s house unsure if she would return.

Episode 9 begins with Jack ghosting Keeley after she sent multiple texts following their decision to take a break. Later, Jack finally responds, saying she will be out of the country for the next few months, effectively ending their relationship.

The decision to end Jack and Keeley’s relationship in this episode of Ted Lasso season 3 could be a significant plot point for what is to come. With only three episodes left before the series ends, Keeley being single again could mean that the final episodes will focus on her healing.

This could include her potentially rekindling a romance with Roy or even Jamie. Although there is a possibility that Ted Lasso season 3 could end with Keeley being single, it is clear that Jack will no longer be a part of her storyline moving forward.

2. Colin Comes Out to His AFC Richmond Teammates

The episode showcases how Isaac’s ejection and the use of a homophobic slur provide an opportunity for Colin to come out as gay. 

Colin clarifies to the team that Isaac is not gay, but he is. Although this moment is not shown on screen, it is made clear that Colin is unequivocally accepted by his coaches and fellow players.

Despite his decision to come out to the team, Colin intends to keep his sexuality private from the public for the time being, as he values the acceptance of those closest to him more than the potential publicity of being an openly gay athlete.

This episode highlights how the AFC Richmond team not only accepts Colin’s sexuality but also cares about him as a person. This plot point is also significant because in reality, we all know that being gay is not easy for a footballer.

The football industry is inherently homophobic and Colin’s coming out is a significant and a positive way to go while portraying the English football community. I am not sure whether gay footballers in reality would be as lucky as Colin, but nevertheless, it is a good gesture to start a conversation.

3. Isaac’s Reaction to Colin’s Coming Out

Isaac’s response to Colin’s revelation about his sexuality is a major plot point in episode 9. Isaac initially reacts negatively to the news, avoiding physical contact with Colin and causing tension between them.

During a match, Isaac’s frustration boils over, and he confronts Colin, resulting in a heated argument between them. Later, during halftime, Isaac overhears a fan using a homophobic slur and charges into the stands to confront them.

While his actions may seem homophobic at first, he later reveals that he was angry with Colin for not trusting him enough to come out to him and was trying to defend him from the hurtful comments. In a strange way, Isaac’s outburst was his way of standing up for his friend and taking a stand against ignorance.

4. Nate’s Redemption Arc Continues

Nate’s redemption arc continues as he pursues a romantic relationship with Jade, finding happiness and acceptance by being his true self.

Although their relationship is moving forward, Rupert tries to interfere and manipulate Nate’s personality, inviting him to a “guys night” that would involve drinking and cheating on his wife.

However, Nate chooses to leave Rupert and spend time with Jade instead, showing that he is still a good person. Despite Rupert’s disapproval, the episode reinforces the idea that Nate’s relationship with Jade brings out the positive side of him.

5. Rebecca’s Advice Helps Roy

In the latest episode of Ted Lasso, Roy experiences a moment of growth, after following some life advice from Rebecca. At first, Roy skips out on a press conference that Rebecca tells him to do, which makes her angry.

She questions whether Roy’s tendency to walk away from things when they get hard is a pattern in his life. Her words make Roy realize that he needs to get out of his own head and start pursuing what he really wants in life.

Roy’s breakthrough moment comes when he speaks to Isaac about his bottled-up anger and how it has ruined parts of his life. This realization makes him attend the post-game press conference, marking a change in his character.

With this newfound mindset, it wouldn’t be surprising if Roy tries to set things right with Keeley and repair their relationship. Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 showcases Roy’s growth and his ability to take control of his own life.
