The Apple TV+ series’ finale was the ‘breaking point’ for Nate and set him up to be the bad guy alongside Rupert. Titled ‘Inverting the Pyramid of Success,’ the episode has a lot of confrontations that bring out the worst in people (mostly Nate).

The final episode gets really ugly for Nate as he confesses to Roy about kissing Keeley… and then is pissed when Roy doesn’t lose his composure. Not only that, but he also tears the ‘Believe’ sign in two and curses the hell out of Ted during the game.

(I mean… if you’re aiming to be the bad guy, why not push it all the way through, right?)

Nathan

It would be interesting to see if the next season gives him Nate a redemption arc or just portrays him as a lost cause. And then there’s Rupert, who has always been the manipulative villain that the writers were slowly setting him up to be.

Rebecca finds out that Rupert has bought West Ham United, meaning – it wasn’t due to the kindness of his heart that he gave back his Richmond shares at her father’s funeral.

As it is revealed, the finale ends with a six month jump, where we see Rupert’s team, West Ham, as they warm up with their new coach, Nate Shelly.

Here, Rupert whispers in his ear again… maybe the first time around it was just him pestering Nate to join West Ham.

In a chat with Collider, actor Nick Mohammed talked about Nate’s fate,

Very, very broadly, I know where things are heading, but I obviously can’t give anything away about season 3. They’re writing season 3 right now, so everything is still up for grabs.

Obviously, I can imagine the fans of the show would love to see the circle complete, and it become a redemption arc, but who knows?

Maybe Nate has gone too far, and maybe it is a villain origin story and there’s no going back, and he’s now the one character who doesn’t get to redeem himself because he’s too embittered and too toxic, ultimately.

We’ll see. I’m not giving anything away. I’m keen to see as well. But it’s fun to play, that’s for sure.

One might wonder how this will build up to season 3? Well, Nate knows AFC Richmond better than anyone else, so now that he’s switched teams, he’ll definitely use Richmond’s strategies and their weaknesses.

Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso

Now that the team has saved their spot in the Premier League with a draw, we’re predicting that West Ham will beat Richmond once with Nate’s strategy, but then Lasso and co. will bounce back.

Time and time again, Jason Sudeikis has been adamant about ending the series after three seasons. In a talk with EW, the series’ co-creator and actor said,

…But the story that’s being told – that three-season arc – is one that I see, know, and understood. I’m glad that they are willing to pay for those three seasons. As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don’t know.

Surely, the series won’t end without giving the fans a final AFC Richmond match against Man City.
