Taron Egerton of Kingsman fame has shared his thoughts on the ongoing rumors suggesting he might be considered to play the next James Bond after Daniel Craig’s departure from the role in the latest Bond film No Time To Die.
Given Egerton’s role as a spy in the Kingsman movies, he has been included in the list of actors speculated to take on the coveted part and don the classic tuxedo while brandishing Bond’s signature Walther PPK pistol.
During a recent interview with Total Film reported by Games Radar, Taron Egerton clarified that he has not had any discussions or talks about taking on the role of James Bond. Egerton believes that the current producers of the Bond franchise, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, have already chosen the next actor to play the famous spy, although he doesn’t have any inside information to support this claim.

Yeah. I mean, I think they’ve already got someone, and it’s not me. I mean, I’ve never been a part of the conversations. I’ve never met the Broccolis. They’ve never enquired about me. I’ve just never been one of the guys that they’re looking at. I just don’t think I’m the right person for that. I think there’s much, much, much better candidates for that role than me. But, you know, I’d be a very willing audience member. They’re brilliant films.
Taron Egerton
Taron Egerton isn’t the only actor who has expressed uncertainty about playing James Bond, as even the frequently suggested Idris Elba has indicated that he may not be keen on taking on the role, even if it was offered to him.
Despite Egerton and Elba ruling themselves out, there are still a number of promising candidates who could potentially fill the shoes of the famous spy. Currently, the leading contender for the role appears to be Aaron Taylor-Johnson, known for his performances in films such as Tenet and Bullet Train.
Reports from early January first suggested that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was a top contender for the role of James Bond after he reportedly had a positive meeting with the franchise producers.
However, Taylor-Johnson has since remained tight-lipped about the claims, neither confirming nor denying his potential involvement in the franchise. Shortly after this, Barbara Broccoli commented on the situation, stating that the casting process hasn’t even started yet as the script for the next Bond film has yet to be written.
While Aaron Taylor-Johnson may have had a productive meeting with the James Bond producers, nothing is set in stone yet regarding his casting. There are still several other actors in the running, such as Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and Regé-Jean Page.
It’s also worth noting that the final choice for the role could be someone who hasn’t even been mentioned in rumors thus far.
