Fear not, for I come bearing the secrets of the wind and the strategies to emerge victorious. Together, we shall ready you for the battle ahead so you may triumph over this foe and proceed to Chapter 3.
1. How to Defeat the Yellow Wind Sage in Black Myth: Wukong
In Black Myth: Wukong, the Yellow Wind Sage stands as the powerful Yaoguai King boss of Chapter 2, presenting a significant hurdle to overcome before progressing to Chapter 3.
While the Yellow Wind Sage’s attacks are predictable, the fight is long and challenging due to its multiple phases and intense final stage. As the storm surrounding the arena intensifies, the boss summons mini tornadoes, making it difficult to avoid getting caught and killed. To overcome this, perfect your strategy for the first two sections of the fight, saving your resources for the third phase.
Initially, the boss is just a tough opponent with a lot of health, but his simple move set and obvious tells make him easy to fight. Use your Transformation spell, Evil Repelling Medicine, Immobilize, Pluck of Many, and Spirit Skill to defeat the Yellow Wind Sage in the frantic final moments.
2. Boss Fight Location
To reach the Yellow Wind Sage Boss Fight, you must head to the Yellow Wind Formation area, accessible from either the Windseal Gate or The Cellar shrines. Ensure you’ve defeated the Tiger Vanguard and Stone Vanguard beforehand, as their essences are necessary to unlock the gates leading to the boss arena.
Once you enter the sandstorm, a cutscene will initiate the battle. If you’re having trouble defeating the Yellow Wind Sage, consider resting at The Cellar Shrine, as it offers a shorter return route to the boss arena.
3. Preparing for Battle
Unlike other bosses, you can’t avoid the Yellow Wind Sage and return later. However, you can delay the fight by focusing on upgrades and preparation. Here’s what to do:
- Unlock medicine crafting with Xu Dog to create Celestial Medicines, which boost stats like defense, stamina, health, and mana.
- Complete Tiger Vanguard’s quest to unlock the Rock Solid spell, which allows you to parry attacks and is crucial for this fight. Upgrade this spell and reallocate Spark points from Cloud Step.
- Focus on skill points that reduce Rock Solid’s cooldown and recover mana upon a successful parry. Upgrade Smash Stance to use Skyfall Strike and build up to two Focus points.
- Complete Pig’s side quest to access the secret area and boss, rewarding you with the Wind Tamer Vessel and the superior Insect armor set.
4. Boss Attack Patterns
To defeat the Yellow Wind Sage, you must know when to dodge and when to attack. Here’s a breakdown of his moveset and their respective counters:
Attack | Description | Counter |
---|---|---|
Trident Spin | Swings trident in a half-circle | Dodge around the boss’s side |
Sand Forks | Slams the trident into the sand, summoning forks | Dodge to the side |
Jumping Stomp | Jumps and slams his foot down | Dodge back when feet leave the ground |
Disengage | Swings trident down while jumping away | Back away with a dodge |
Charging Combo | Series of attacks with the trident | Dodge each attack, watching the trident movement |
Wind Slash | Sends line of damaging wind | Dodge through or jump over |
Storm Spin | Slow, sweeping attacks summoning a storm | Dodge through attacks |
Summoned Echoes | Echoes attack with combos | Focus on dodging, watching staff and feet |
Return Combo | Delayed stomp after echoes attack | Back away or dodge through |
Punt Grab | Devastating grab with a subtle tell | Dodge, when seeing kick-out motion |
Headless Spear Combo | Faster combos with staff | Keep an eye on staff to time dodges |
Beetle Summon | Massive sand beetle body slams | Dodge early to avoid |
Tornado Summon | Summons storm, making arena treacherous | Beat down the boss before the storm |
Final Combo | Sweeping attacks in storm | Time dodges through glowing spins |
Final Summons | Powerful echo combos in storm | Look for the glow of sticks to dodge |
5. Combat Tactics
The Yellow Wind Sage boss fight is divided into three phases.
1. Phase One Strategy
Yellow Wind Sage unleashes powerful trident combos in the first phase that require precise dodging. Be cautious of his finishing moves, including a wide horizontal swing or vertical slam accompanied by a phantom trident trail that deals huge damage. To quickly progress through this phase:
- Use Immobilize during one of his attacks, followed by a light attack combo to build focus (conserve mana by using the spell only once).
- If equipped with Wandering Wight’s spirit, utilize the transformation to stun him again.
- Build two focus points (perfect dodging also raises focus) and execute a combo ending with a heavy Resolute Strike, followed by a Skyfall Strike to stun him and deal additional damage.
Note: Avoid using Rock Solid to parry during this phase, as his erratic swings may cause the spell to go to waste. Also, be aware that Yellow Wind Sage may backstep away between attacks, potentially causing your Skyfall Strike to miss.
2. Phase Two Strategy
When Yellow Wind Sage’s health drops to two-thirds, he enters his second phase. The transition is marked by a foot stomp and four tornado-like trident swings, increasing in range. Back away to avoid damage and note the worsening visibility due to strong winds.
- Use Rock Solid to parry ground attacks, but avoid using it against jump attacks.
- Immobilize can be used, but conserve mana for parrying.
- Dodge Fuban, the giant insect, as it drops from the air.
Stay vigilant and adapt to this phase’s increased aggression and new attacks.
3. Phase Three Strategy
When Yellow Wind Sage’s health drops to the final third, his third phase begins, introducing a tornado that damages and lifts you into the air. This phase combines previous attacks with the added challenge of navigating the tornado’s effects.
- Use the Wind Tamer Vessel to disperse the wind and tornado, stun Yellow Wind Sage momentarily, and grant a temporary defense boost.
- Take advantage of the clearer visibility to dodge his regular attacks and rush in for a free combo and focus-heavy attack.
If you’ve been saving your transformation, now’s the time to use it, as the alternate forms have their own health bars, allowing you to conserve your health. This will help you finally defeat the Yellow Wind Sage and emerge victorious.
6. Boss Fight Rewards
As a reward for defeating the Yellow Wind Sage, you’ll receive your second Relic, Fuming Ears, which grants one of three boons:
- All Ears: Extended invincibility duration for varied combo starters.
- Sounds as a Bell: Narrowed window for Rock Solid parries.
- Whistling Wind: Temporary attack boost after a perfect dodge.
You’ll also receive in-game rewards such as:
- 2583 XP
- 1944 Will
- 1x Samadhi Wind Agate
- 2x Yaoguai Core
- 1x Refined Iron Sand
- 2x Cold Iron Leaves
- 5x Silk
- 1x Mind Core
And that’s a wrap on Chapter 2 of Black Myth: Wukong! Defeating the Yellow Wind Sage is no easy feat, but you’ll emerge victorious with persistence and the right strategies.
On to Chapter 3, where new challenges await!
